Anyone know if an 86 ATC 250R wiring harness will work on an 87 TRX 250R?
Thanks.

I would imagine that it would, cause the 86 atc and trx are the exact same, and the only changes were made to the chasis, piston, and rod between the years of the trx's.

it would probably work, if you could get everything to line up properly, which I somewhat doubt.

I would tend to doubt it, as the harness for an 86, 87, 88, and 89 TRX are all slightly different.

It will work with some modifications. I think the ATC harness is grounded at the rear of the frame while the TRX harness is near the top left radiator mount.
I did the same with my 86 ATC harness on my 87 TRX.

So all I would have to do is find someplace near the rear of the frame to hook the ground to?

If you can find a bolt at the rear of the frame to ground the harness do it. I just cut off the green wire and reconnected near the front.

Hey Jmoney45 what's up? You picked up a trx250r? Very cool man is it in really bad shape or not. The kid in Avon that owns Avon Cycle Joint is kind of this areas 250r expert. He has 3 of them he races and he usually picks one up here and there if he likes it or thinks he can sell it. I've seen him race at our local mx tracks and he never seems to loose. He races in our local pro class and generally wins by a mile. If you want to check out his shop and talk to him just get a hold of me or Heath. I can't think of anyone in our general area that would no more about 250r's than Aron. How far away from being able to ride the 250r are you?

DirtDiggler,
I am actually picking up parts here and there to build one. I bought a frame, a-arms, and most of the front end components as well as a swingarm. Everything is in excellent condition. I will need to get some more misc. parts, the motor, tires, and the plastic. I am hoping to have it going this summer but the house has to come before the motor (so the wife says). I have been waiting for a little cold weather and some snow to ride in but have been disappointed so far. Maybe this weekend. We'll have to get together again. Have you decided on a new machine yet?
