Alright I polished my 250r's stator cover last year.I did it at school.I am not sure what kind of buffing compound I used but it worked great. Now I am trying to polish the clutch side casing of my 250r.but I can't find any buffing compound.Autozone doesn't have it.Nor do any other parts stores around here.I bought some turtle wax stuff at wal-mart that is supposed to be metal buffing compound. It sucks though.

I have the sidecase shiny just not like a mirror.Could I just buy some mother aluminum polish?Would that work good enough. The stuff at school was awesome. My stator cover looked like a mirror. It took alot of work though.

Thanks for any help

I get all of my pollishing suplies From Eastwood. They have a full line of different compunds, buffing wheels and sanding wheels. I would start off with the emery or stainless compound for the first step in pollishing after you have sanded it with verry fine sand paper I would recomend 240 or 320 depending on how smooth your cover is . After you get it pollished to a hi luster with the emery or stainless then you could try some White rouge. Hope this helps if you need any other help just ask. O yea I almost forgot Eastwood has a web site www.eastwoodcompany.com Or you can get directly to the compounds and wheels via http://www.eastwoodcompany.com/cgi-b...02013118572761
Hope this helps

There are alot of casting flaws in the case.I got most of them sanded smooth last night. On my stator case I used 1000 grit and wet sanded it then polished it.

I've used just about all of the metal polishes out there and I have to say the best is Wenol. I'm not sure if they are still around. You could buy this stuff at custom auto shows only at one time. I do remember the number though. 1-800-WENOL-IT. Mother's does work great, but this stuff didn't need near the "elbow grease".

I use Wenol on the polished wheels on both my trucks and on my Quadracer. This is the best stuff I have ever found. You can get it at Summit Racing.

The compounds you guys are mentioning are verry good compounds if you already have pollished metal in fact i use the mothers to keep my things looking good .The polishing compounds that i have mentiond earlier are for hi speed poilishing wheels and are not liquid they are a hard compound. Yes sanding Is the way to go with this stuff the sand marks of even 320 grit paper just polish right out. After sanding my thum throtle cover for example it took only five min to get it polished to a mirror finish and this stuff will polish it verry fast. I am not fimilar with the wenol but yes the others would take along time if ever to get any kind of sanding marks out. Large buffing wheel wouldn't work on a side cover verry well on my banshee cylinders and side cases a high speed die grinder with dremel polishing wheels would work good.

That end part didn't make much since after re reading it so here is what i really meant. The large buffing wheel wouldn't work on a side cover verry well to many nooks and cranneys. After polishing my banshee cylinders and side cover i have found that the dremel tool buffing wheels work good for the tight places. Hope this is eaiser to under stand

The best stuff i found is a polish called detail specalties. I like it better than any other stuff i used. For polshing from a dull flat alum. to a shiny you have to sand and yes a dremel and polshing compund works great for that a dremel and polsihing kit is all you need for most stuff on a ATV. Try to find some detail specalties in your area if you cant email me and i will try to hook you up with some.
