I have a 2000 AC 500 manual. It is primarily used for hunting, fishing and joy riding. I would like to put better tires on it, since it spends all of its use in the creek bottoms. I would like a little more ground clearance, but am concerned about the wear on the cv joints if I use a lift. What size tires can I use on the factory rims with and without a lift kit. Any help is appreciated.

I put 27x10x12 GBC Dirt Devils all the way around on my stock wheels. I should have gone up to the 28, they will fit. They make a HUGE difference.

Did you have to put a lift kit on it or wheel spacers to make them clear?

I have 27" ITP 589MS on my 02 500, if you have an 02 you need to run spacers on the rear. If it is an 01 or earlier you don't need anything, but may want to put some spring spacers in the front. I have heard that a lift will stiffen the suspension and improve handling. I wouldn't put a lift on a 02 however.

huntsteven, I'm in the same boat. I would really like to get big tires on my 01 400 4x4, but I don't know if I need a lift kit or not. I would like to put 27" vampires on

Did you use the same size tires front and rear or did you use smaller tires on the front?

You need to stick with the same tire ratio that came stock on the bike if it is a 4x4. Otherwise you will change the gear ratio to much. What I'm talking about is if it had 25" tires all the way around you would need to stick with the same size tires all the way around whether you go with 26", 27" or 28". The 250 and 300 I think has a 1" bigger tire in the rear. So if you went up a inch in the back you would need to go up a inch in the front.
