Does anyone have any info on how these two thumpers, how they perform against each other. I know the 450 puts out 55 horse, but I don't know what the 426 has, does any one else out there know. Has anyone read about a test of these two in a magazine or anything like that. I was wanting to know if the new honda motor would be able to out perform the al mighty 426. I am planning to start a 426 or 450 motor swap into a 250r frame. I was planning to start from scratch. I think a new frame from honda is like 500 bucks. Also which would be better to put the motor in the 400ex or 250r.

Thanks, Raptor man

hmm, framewise, possibly the 400EX because its a more modern design, and is a tube-frame, rather than box frame, but then again maybe the R frame because it sports a liquid cooled motor to begin with.

I dont know about the YZ426, but I have heard from a buddie that saw a CRF screwin around, and he said the thing had serious *****. (and he is a die hard 2 stroke guy, rides a YZ250)

Sorry to burst your bubble but Honda quit making the 250R frames a few years back.

You must have some serious $$$ to throw around so I suggest using an aftermarket frame(Not LSR though, I hear they have a tendecie(sp?) to crack around the pegs) and I would make sure that your track will let you run a 450 in the classes you want to run, if they will let you run it, I would go with the CRF motor.

all hands down the crf450 is better! better suspention, costs less to repair, more powerful, faster, better suspention and handling and brakes and maintance. easy to work on.

Motorcross Action tested both bikes and the YZ (for experienced riders) SPANKED the Honda. They said the power on the YZ came on stronger and the suspension was set up better for MX. That's not to say they didn't like the Honda though. They said for a first year bike it was pretty good and wait until next year. The March 2002 MXA has a CRF480 with a White Bros. big bore kit. Which brings up another point for the Honda, Honda and WB just signed a long term contract for racing four strokes. Team White Bros. formally used Yamahas. HOWEVER there's also the rumored YZ450F that's said to be coming as a 2003 model, so as to keep spanking the Honda, not to mention anything KTM might be doing.

ThunderPower, the supsension and Handling play no part in this topic, he is only useing the motor fromt he CRF. Dirt Rider also did a CRF V.S. YZF and the CRF was the overall winner, however I THINK that they liked the power characteristics better on the YZF. I guess what you should do is go find some who will let you ride the CR and YZ, see which one provides better power for yourself, and decide from there.

i was reading a dirtbike mag (i don't remember which one, it was motocross action i think) and they said the YZ was the better bike and even a better engine. however i still think i'd put the 450 engine in the frame to keep it a honda. i suspect knowsalot will post some better info in here than i have.
