oil cooler for warrior
#2
I have a oil cooler from Four Stroke Tech. It ran me $107 including postage. There is a thread somewhere where Mickey Dunlap (he owns and runs FST) gives a detailed explaination about the need for the oil cooler kit on the Warrior. Mickey used to race the Warrior nationally. The cooled oil from the FST kit is returned to the engine through the clutch cover and is directly put on the hottest parts of the engine. There is an alternate method of oil cooling the Warrior that involves using parts from the Big Bear. This process involves bringing the cooled oil back in through the oil filter housing. Installation time takes about two to three hours and the only additional tool needed is an 1/8" NPT pipe tap. If I recall correctly (I'll try searching later) the FST oil cooler drops the oil temperature about 50 degrees F.

i dont have a cooler yet, been having a hard time finding one, i run synthetic oil in all of my machines. by keeping the oil temp down the oil does not breakdown as fast, keeping all of the engine and transmissing parts well lubed. resulting in you not having to change oil before every ride. in cars and trucks i use regular valvoline but in my street bike, birt bike and atvs i use synthetic. they all run at higher rpms and take more abuse. i also change my atv oil about every 3 rides depending on how hard and how long i ride. $30 in oil a year is cheap compared to ruining my ride.

Check out www.fourstroketech.com for a phone number to reach them and get an oil ooler. Check under "New Product Release" and there will be a picture of a cooler for a 400EX. The Warrior cooler is the same style, just not as tall. I use either Yamalube or Golden Spectro semi-synthetic. As far as how much difference it makes, I look at it as cheap insurance. A lot of times when i ride at the Silver Lake Dunes during the summer it will be in the upper 80's to lower 90's. On an air cooled motor that's a pretty tough envirement. More heat = less power. Working on my quads because I want to is fun (like installing a oil cooler), working on them because I HAVE to (blown or seized motor) is a drag.

has anyone tried this process? It looks easy enough.
I can get bike radiator pretty cheap, im sure i can get the hose pretty cheap too, all that would cost me would be the kodiak or big bear oil cover and sandwich plate. Is this really doable? check out this site....
