Raptor ignition timing advance on modified engine
#1
Does anyone out there know how to advance and how much to advance on a modified raptor motor (ported/polished head, 11:1 pistion, cam etc...) w/ out killing it and having pre-detonation (pinging).
any help is appreciated! Or if anyone sells a kit to advance it up.
thanks...

Sorry Jay I do not have answer to your question but i see what all mods you have and was wondering how much was it for your cam piston and to bore it .10 over. Is the bored allot? Is this price with labore and did you have to buy a new sleeve? And price of being ported and polished? What hp you think you are producing with these mods? Cam and Piston with exhaust aloe? Thanx i am goin to build mine up and i dont know what companies or anything to start with

Sparks Racing has a 6 degree advance key for $15. This is the only one I've seen but since my 02 is still under warranty I'm going to wait. Go to sparksracing.com to see it & you can e-mail them from there or call them at 661-872-4343. they are verv knowledgable & frendily. you'll have to tell me if it's worth it.

Been there, done that. Don't do it. It's a joke, and for the hassle involved I could not even percieve a noticable change. I think there's a lot of others on this forum that would tend to agree with me on this one! 2 strokes seem to benefit from the timing advance thing more than the 4 strokes. (granted, I do not know if the fact that your engine is modified makes any difference. At least it's not worth it on a stock motor, in my opinion.)

Well SCOTTD you just saved me $15 But seriously what other mods have you done to your quad? I'm sure it wasn't just the key. I am going to put a pipe, silencer, Pro Flow, K&N & Dynojet kit. Are these similar to your mods? I was looking at the advance key after my warranty expires I'm not planning to do any thing else untill I have to do a ring job or a valve job or the like, then I'll do a port & polish hi compression piston & cam. But that probably won't happen for a couple of years. Mabey someone with the mods will have an answer

SykoQuadRider:
I spent $1,000 in just labor (port and polish and flow the head, valve job, .020 bore, install cam, check valve to piston clearance, set timing. I pretty much brought them the entire engine w/ all the new parts, and picked it up all assembled. The parts i bought were white brothers valve springs, new valves, new valve seats, white brothers cam & titanuim retainers, CT racing 12:1 pistion .020 over.
I did not do a new sleave, and if I could get the clutch to hook up it is estimated to be putting out HP in the low 60's .
Check out sparksracing.com and thier 690 kit. It is supposed to be off the hook and blow away the trinity 686 kit. Wish i did the 690. damn.
