RM shifter hits frame... can't change gears...

BAHH!!!!
The RM sifter hits the frame and I don't think I can modify it much so it won't...
I'm planning on running a linkage to a fixed quad shifter attached to the frame... Anyone think that's stupid or there's a better way?
I moved the shifter up a few notches and removed the chain gaurd but it still doesn't help alot and I want to run a chain gaurd... This seriously sucks. Help is appreciated.

Go to a ATV scrap yard and grab 3 or 4 steel shift levers and cut all the splined ends off, weld them together like a tube, then weld it onto your shifter. That should put the lever out past the frame. I had an old XL 100 dirtbike that didn't run and a 85 Moto-4 200 which had a stripped shift lever, so that's how I fixed the shifter problem with that, and it worked good for a few years till I sold it (actually my parents did after the 8th time a State Trooper followed me home for riding up the road all day long). If the shifter shaft is to far back in the frame so you can't get the lever on, notch the frame and weld in a small piece of tubing cut like a ) so you don't have a big empty hole in the frame...........I guess it all depends on where its hitting.......Latah.....
