Questions regarding the Suzuki LT250 Quadsport
#1
I just picked up an older Suzuki LT250S Quadsport.
It is in very rough condition.
I am not sure what the year is, but it is mostly white with a blue (wide) seat.
Do you have any idea what year (or a range) it is?
What spark plug should I run in it?
Also, there is a sticker on the side that advises to turn the choke lever up and the "Choke Limiter ****" in during warm weather. Where and what the heck is a "Choke Limiter?" It runs real rough, especially when I try to accelerate. Could this be due to improper adjustment to the Choke Limiter ****? How do I adjust it?
It also has an electric starter that doesn't look factory. Did they come with electric starters?
There is also a second, smaller clutch lever (compression release?) on the left handlebar. What it the purpose of it and how do I use it in the starting procedures? Thew engine will not start when I try with the lever pulled in.
Thanks!

Suzuki did not make the 250 QuadSport but for a few years in the late 80's. They did not come with electric start. On the left side of the carb is the choke lever, on the right a black pull lever. If you want the full choke, first pull out the black pull lever, then push down the choke lever. When you do not pull out the one on the right first, it only lets you push the one on the left half way down. The small handlebar lever is the engine compression release. You kick the kickstarter lever slow until you come to the compression stroke (lots of resistance) then pull the compression release, then kick.

They made these quads from '89 to '90. Standard plug is a NGK DP7EA-9.
This works on most bikes: find the VIN on the quad and then count to the 10th character (will be a letter).
The letter corresponds with the year: a=80, b=81, c=82, d=83, e=84, f=85, g=86, h=87, j=88, k=89, l=90, m=91, n=92, p=93, r=94, s=95, t=96, v=97, w=98, x=99, y=00, z=01

Thanks for the plug info. I went down and picked a couple up today.
Now for the compression lever. Should the engine start with the compression lever pulled in?
I can start it with the compression lever out. If I pull the lever in, the kicking is much easier, but the engine will not fire. With the lever out, the kicking is harder, but the engine will start.
Help???

You only use the compression lever when you are kickstarting the machine. With electric start you do not use it.
To start with decompression sysem:
1-Push the kickstarter down until heavy resistance is felt. You don't need to kick it hard like you are trying to start it.
2-Pull the decompression lever in and push the kickstarter down an inch or 2
3-Release the decompression lever and let the kickstart return to the top of it's stroke
4-Keep your thumb off the gas and give it a good solid kick through the whole kickstarter stroke
I also ride a YZ426F, and this thing is a b**ch if you don't know the drill. It sounds complicated, but with a little practice it will come easy. You typically dont want to start four stroke motors without using it, as it puts extreme pressure on the kickstart lever and internal mechanism on the motor. On my 426 you cannot, unless you're a NFL lineman, even kick it over without using the comp release.
