HOW MANY PADDLES ON MILD 400EX
#1
what size of paddles and how many could I run on my 400ex with Pro circuit slipon, k&n, and jetting. I am planning on going to Little Sahara, ok on the 15th nite and ride all day saturday (16TH) and I still have to order the paddles so any help would be appreciated. What brand would you reccomend?

My preference; Sand Skate IIs, 22 x 11 x 10 with 8 paddles.
Too many paddles and you won't be able to spin them. Not enough and you won't move. Eight is just right for 99% of the quads out there. It's also the standard number on a tire when you buy them "off the shelf."

I run 8-paddle Skat-Trak Edges, on ITP 9X9 (wider than stock) wheels. The buffed down Skats are lighter than other brands. I like the Edges (vs haulers), because I do more maneuver type of riding (as opposed to sand drags). I have run 6-paddles in the past, and 6 isn't enough even for a lightly modded 400.

Definately go with 8-paddle.
V-paddles will help you slide more, straight paddles will help you "hook up" more.

For the modifications you have on your quad I would not use an eight paddle tire or 10" wheels. I had a set of 10" 7 paddle Edges and they bogged my 400 down big time. I sold them the very next day. They were way too heavy and the paddles were too tall. I have the same mod's installed on my 400 as well. I then installed 6 paddle Gliders not Haulers on 8" wheels and the difference was night and day. I am more than pleased with this set up. They hook up and slide great.
In my opinion an 8 paddle tire on your machine is too much paddle especially mounted on 10" wheels.

o yea...id go w/ the new geckos from kenda...they look awesome.....not the traditional v blade its like the edges and sand skates etc, but instead of having one side longer than the other side its got a perfect v down the center and smaller v's on the outside....im not positive that a 400 will turn them but it should do prety well....the pipe you have should help it out alot...they should serve you well...later
