I found a 1999 600f4 for $3800 The drawback is it was wrecked and turned into a race bike (and has a salvaged title) It only has 4700 miles on it. Im pretty much just going to cruise the town in it, no racing. Anyway, it has all yellow plastic on it and he doesnt have the stock stuff. How much would it cost me to get the yellow and black tiger stripe plastic and also the headlight and tailight stuff so it would be street legal. Thanks

I had a CBR600F2, and got in a wreck... Anyway, to replace the plastic with stock parts, you are looking at about $1000 (or more). It isn't cheap. Check on ebay. There may be some racer selling the stock pieces for a cheaper price. Stay away from the aftermarket stuff. It doesn't fit well, and is made of fiberglass. You'll end up holding it on with zip ties. I know the odometer says 4700 miles on it, but on a race bike, they remove the odometer assembly and usually just run a tachometer. I have some buddies that race Honda 600's for the past 5 or 6 years. They race a bike until it's about ready to need a re-build, and then sell it with very low miles on the odometer. I'd be careful. This bike may need alot more work, than just a new fairing.

he said it has 6 races on the bike. That sounds real low to me, but im kinda new to this stuff. He sent me a picture of it, I changed my mind, I like it all yellow. BUT, it still doesnt have the headlight or tailight, and he says it has a few scratches on the lower fairing. I dont know what to do, i want a cheap, but good looking bike. This is really good looking (in th picture he sent me) but im just not really sure. Oh he also said he sold the stock tank and bought a one with a dent in it. So, to make it perfect, would need a new tank, headlight piece, taillight piece, and someone to touch up the fairings. and i guess i should also take it to a mechanic before i buy it and have them run some tests. what kind of tests?
Thanks

You might want to go a step further and see if you can even re-title the bike for highway use. I don't think you can reverse the "race only title". Insurance companies might not even insure your bike if you can't get it registered through DMV.

I really think I'd pass on this bike. Get one that is a couple of years older. The CBR 600 motor is very strong, and very reliable. I have known them to go 25 to 30 thousand miles before needing a rebuild. If you buy this bike, you'll always be fixing something. Buy a 97 or 98 CBR 600, or maybe a Yamaha R-6, or Suzuki GSX-R 600. You'll be happy with any of these three bikes, and you should be able to pick one up (that doesn't need a million new parts) for under $3800 if you shop around a bit.

The local papers seem to have the best deals, around here anyway. I see alot of GSXR 600 and 750's for under $5000 that are "newer" models.

i think im still going to go look at it, if anything else, its a free ride. who knows, maybe these things arent even for me. If i get there and it feels good, sounds good, and rides good do you think i should still pass it up, what if i take it to a dealer and have them check it out, that cant be any more than 50 bucks or so. what if he comes down to 3500 or 3300? Thanks

I'd still pass that bike up. The wiring harness, headlight assembly, tail light, and blinkers will set you back a few hundred bucks (for used parts). A new gas tank is even more. Plus...you'd have to buy new plastic to install the headlight. Does this guy have the stock mounting brackets. I really think it's a mistake. Is this your first street bike?? Crotch-Rockets can be a real kick to ride around, but one that is just kinda held together with bailing wire and duct tape (like this one sounds to be) is just plain dangerous. I speak from experience...Crashing on the highway is nothing like a wreck on your atv. If you're going to get a bike like this, Get one that has all of the parts allready on it. Check out the classified ads, or a cycle trader magazine. You are bound to find a good bike in your price range. Don't forget, you still gotta go out and get a riding jacket, good gloves, boots, and helmet. RIDE SAFE, and live to ride another day... I probably sound like your mother, but I still freak out when I drive through the intersection where I got hit by a car on my bike.
