I am looking to buy a 2 place ATV trailer, but have no experience with trailers. I will be doing alot of highway driving to get from CT to other states. Also some pretty rough roads in Maine.

I have narrowed it down to 3 choices .

1. Triton SL8 - built well, alluminum, big gates on both sides that fold down, small 8"- but fat tires, good suspension.

2.Triton UT88 - same as above, but instead of big gates is just a flat trailer wit a ramp that stores underneath and can move around for acess to both sides and back. This trailer might become more handy for non ATV hauling, but seems dangerous not having any side rails.

3. a heavier 6x10 trailer that has 15'' tires. these kind of trailers come with back ramps or entire trailer can be tilted. what I like best here is bigger tires, but I hear that as long as you keep on top of the Triton tires they will be fine.

Anyway - I would appreciate help from anyone with experience with the Tritons or any other trailers.

I'm going to throw in my $.02 as I've had a couple atv trailers...

Now when I talk about 2 quads, I speak of 2 FULL sized quads, I have 2 raptors.

Personally, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't ever get anything less than a 6x12 for 2 quads.

Here is my reasoning:
On a 6 x12 you can forward load 2 fill size quads, IE from front to rear without having to man handle them side ways. This will leave 1 foot on either side of the quads, between the quads and the rails, great storage area for gas tanks and other junk. If you on an off chance need to move 3 quads, it can be down by spinning the quads sideways, and now 3 fit really easily, with a little bit of room left for gas tanks.

I had a 5x10 and could NOT get 2 full sized quads front to back for easy loading.. it was a pain. A 6x10 would make them easier to spin, sideways, but you still have to man handle them on and off then. I just don't suggest it.

Anything else is just to small.. at least if you ask me.

A good trailer, at least to me, would have 15 inch tires, and a nice drop down gate for easy loading..

I wouldn't do tilt bed with multiable quads.. again just my $.02

I should be getting an 8x20 enclosed tomorrow (it's been on order for weeks).. I can fit 6 quads in it, with a generator and a little extra room. One thing I did is draw out the trailer on graph paper then start putting things on it that I thought I'd need. A full size quad is generally a little less than 4x6 feet. Using the 4x6 measurement and a 6x12 trailer you'll see how great that size is.

Good luck on your search..
Brad

We took a 6x12 trailer and decked it. It now side loads 4 full size ATVs no problem. No side rails though, but 4 tie-downs per bike means it isn't going anywhere unless something goes unbelievably wrong.

We were loading 3 into the 6x12 before decking it, but having to man handle them into place is no fun. Especially after 6 hours of mudding.

Ya.. 3 on a 6x12, they do have to be man handled.. but it works..

2 on a 6x12 is best..

This is the type of trailer (click here to view) I would get , with the $100 ramp option..

Dawg...we ride in the same neck of woods. i use a landscaping trialor. 8x10 allows me room enough to fit my raptor and the wifes Warrior as well some gas tanks. They make them out of steel and have a 1 ft high railings that raps around. the ramp that comes with it is more like a tail gate that folds up to close and is locked into place with pins. The tires are as big as my sport utility. i've taken this thing off road to get into pits and trails.

i drive an Isuzu rodeo and it trailors just find. plus... i'm always using it for projects around the house. They are one of the most stabilist trailors made and they last forever.

multi-functional
durable
Big-wheels=smooth trailoring
Black-matches any ride

Had a 5' x 12' tandem. Pulled great, but no side loading. No way for 3 quads. So I built a 6'x 14' tandem from a kit. 3 days welding and painting. Total cost $850. Total weight, 850 lbs. 350 lbs lighter than the 5' x 12'!! This kit is made in Mexico and marketed locally by a tire shop. It is made entirely of lightweight rectangular TUBING instead of angle iron. I lowered the side rails to 8" so I could side load. I side load the front and back quads, and the middle quad I end load, so I don't have to drive it over the fender wells. Drive up one side, off the other, even the raptor clears just fine. Took it to Pismo last summer with my Nissan Pathfinder, 2,000 plus miles, pulls great. Can't beat a tandem, they pull much better than single axle trailers.

I have an 8x10.5 LoadRite aluminum tilt snowmobile trailer. I mounted my diamond plate aluminum truck bed box on the front, by drilling a couple of holes in the bottom of the box and using the Ski tie downs to secure the box. Great for storing gear, tools and gas.
When winter falls and I need to pull the sled, I simply unscrew the tie downs and the box comes right off. The box also helps to keep the Quads from lunging forward in the event of some hard braking and acts as a rock guard.
I have managed to put 3 large Quads on the trailer. We drove the Grizzly and the Sportsman on and parked the Prairie sideways across the back. I have hauled them to Naples, Maine several times this way.
I can easily load two quads on the trailer by myself. I pull the pin and tilt the trailer. Drive one on, stopping about half way and engage the parking brake. Drive the second one on and pull up to the front. This causes the trailer to “close”. Put the pin back in, move the first to the front and then tie them down. You can drive both up at the same time, if my wife or buddy is with me. To unload, you can pull the pin and back off or put them in neutral and tilt the trailer. Both quads roll off.
We purchased a couple of the large 2” thick Yellow ratcheting tie downs the truckers use, from our local Sam’s club. I have snapped the small RED motorcycle tie downs in the past. I cut a slot in the floor of the trailer (right in front of one of the cross member) and fed the strap up through, ran the strap underneath the trailer and the other end is connected to the quads trailer hitch. These are AWESOME!
The trailer handles great (no duck walking), has a 1-ton rating and is quite universal. I use it for the Quads, Snowmobiles, dump runs and for bark mulch. I actually sold my pickup truck, because it took less time to connect the trailer than it did to roll back the tonneau cover. The load rite comes with a integrated axle grease system, Simalar to buddy bearing's. A couple of quick squirts of grease prior to long runs. I picked the trailer up for $1000 when I bought the quads, so i got a nice price cut.
