I've read several post about front hub oil replacement/filling
and was wondering about rear hub oil. Are front and rear lubed different? (I'm asking about on a 500HO) Also, to change/fill the front hubs, is it adviseable to remove tires?

It's not necessart to remove the tire. Pull the enc cap off the hub and drain the hub, replace the o-ring with a new one and put end cap back on. Turn the wheel so the fill plug is at the 4 or 8 o'clock position and fill till it runs out. Do not overfill the hub and do not force more fluid in. Thats it, it's that simple.

Big,
What are you talking about, Rear hubs? You have a sealed roller bearing on the outboard side of your outter CV / U-joint in the rear. One comment about the first reply to your question. It's much easier to just keep your hub fill plug at 12-o-clock and add the proper amount of fluid, then roll the hub to 4 or 8 and let the excess drain off. Keep in mind that you should let the hub drain for a while and tip the machine so your hub is tilted down. This will allow the fluid to pass through the inner roller bearings and out the end. The same go's for filling, make sure to let it sit for a while so the new fluid flows back to the inner bearing area.
The best way to do your hubs is to remove the nut and pull the whole works apart and clean it properly, this is very easy and can be done in 20 minutes per side. You will also benifit from a clear understanding of how the "Hillerd" clutch works. This is the type of valubale information that can pay for it self in the field.

Hope this helps
