I am REALLY tired of hearing about the SP and Griz ground clearance. Is one or so inches really that big a deal? Besides that, if I have 28" tires and can turn them faster than a 700, isn't that gonna get me through more mud? Everyone talks about GC so much, I get sick of it. I ride with a few Sportsmans and I make it through way more with my Xplorer just because I have more wheelspeed. I can see where ruts could hold you up, but why would a perfect rut be 11" instead of 10 inches. I just don't think so. I think the IRS quads get hung up just as much as a straight axle. They only have their max GC in the center 6 inches or so. You can't tell me that a rut is almost always 6 inches wide and 11 inches deep. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, I get so tired of hearing about GC, it is pathetic. Like I said 1 or so inches cannot make that much difference. What do you guys think?

Sorry so long. Had to vent!

No, it is not a big deal. I ride with IRS buddies. I don't need it. I get around great now that the crappy tires are gone.

Roofer, the people that own those other quads and tell you that stuff are just trying to feel adequate by trying to tell you theirs is better than yours. I hear it all the time from all directions.

I have a degree in detecting sucking opinions, and I am officially telling you that their opinions suck. So, from now on you can confidently not be bothered by those people's opinions again.

I also have a black belt in ignoring sucking oppinions. Some people like to argue. I can do that too. But when you ignore those people hunting for ego food, they starve.

Long live the ATV.

might i add, that when you get more GC you also make CG (ihad to throw that in!) higher, tippier. who cares about GC if you go fast enough it does`nt matter! just a thought....

I almost bought a Polaris based soley on IRS. I thought I needed it. Oh sure the SP700 gave a nice ride during the offroad test ride with some good bumps. I was fortunate enough to get to ride it in snow on a small track. But then I went to a Polaris/Kawi dealer with a friend of mine and we dragged the two ATV's (700 vs.650). That was all it took to make me decide on the 650. I bought it then had buyer's remorse before picking it up. BUT;...Once I actually had it and took it offroad through moderate mud and deep ND snow; I realized that IRS was overrated. The sheer power of the V-Twin gets one through most anything. Just my opinion here. But I went back to the dealer and told my salesman (in a kind joking manner)to get his butt on a 650 offroad so he could do a better job selling these machines against IRS.

Sidenote:

A young high school gal put her Jeep Wrangler in a ditch behind my house last nigh. We got slammed with a snow storm and 8" of snow. I ended up putting my 650 across the street facing into the incline for leverage. I laid my winch cable across the road (so cars could pass) as I connected the hook to her Jeep. I did not know how much the Jeep weighed but I figured with her wheel spin and a little pull from me we could get her out. I tighted the cable , gave her the signal to accelerate and she pulled right up. Luckily I had the 650 slightly up the hill for leverage. Even with my brakes holding I pulled a little but just a little help was all she needed. Kind of fun. I was wishing I was in high school again. She was HOT!

This reminds me of a time last fall when I went riding. There was this really muddy section. I had my 650 and this other guy was on his 660. Well I grabbed my diff lock lever and floored it shooting these huge rooster tails of mud and barely made it through the mud. The guy on the 660 put his in diff lock mode. The tires caked right up with mud and because of his limiter he couldn't spin the tires fast enough. I think he actually did better in 3x4 mode. But he still couldn't make it through though. Not even close. I thought for sure that the grizz would be a better mudder, but I wasn't impressed. Stock vs. stock here.

If I thought that the grizz was that much better than my prairie, then I'd go down to the yami dealer and trade in my prairie. I'm very pleased with the 650.

I guess I was in a better mood last night when I made my first post last night, because I am already very sick of Polaris's stupid advertising. I saw it when a 660 owner was griping about it in the yamaha posts.

Polaris makes a very biased comparison of the 700 to the 660, where they give each quad checks for it's features.
-Polaris gave the 700 a check for something front suspension, where the 660 has the better specs.
-They gave the 700 a check for steel wheels, when it is far better to have aluminum (griz).
-They gave the 700 a check for a single brake lever, when it is not only unsafe, but annoying not to have independant control.

They are similarly making biased, misleading comparisons against the 650.

When an advertiser (like polaris) treats me like I am stupid, It makes me mad. Their advertising is very skewed, inaccurate and so biased it makes me ill just hearing about it. Does that mean that people that buy 700's are less informed? Less technically wise? I bet it could be proven.

And that 4x4 system, the "On demand" sytem, that they keep calling true 4x4? That is misleading to the public. It is not true 4x4, but an electromagnetic part time All wheel drive (that is speed limited, does not work in reverse without an override, is unreliable, and unpredictable, and according to polaris owners unsafe). Although most quads are not true 4x4, the 660, some suzukis, and the MIGHTY 650 are "true 4x4".

Well i look at it this way. to each his own, instead of bashing other quads i think all that really matters is if the person is having fun or not. And on a good ride if you dont get stuck then you arn't having fun.

there is no dought in my opinion, any of these quads would look real good in my garage!!! i chose what i chose couse of the ride comfort, and couse of my ailing body, lol. if i were 20something again, and not all busted up, i would have bought the 650 prarie, but i am still recovering from torn ligaments and a broken bone at the knee. the ride had to be smooth, or i just couldn't do it. do i think my quad is any better or worse than a 650 prarie, hell no, just a little differant. the new 700 is a nice quad, but not all the advertizements are making it out to be. i just think that if people with irs say it is a must, then they arent riding it fast enough to cover the areas that it might be needed in, lol. all the same, i am glad there are 3 big quads out there of such caliber that we can choose over them!

Anyone can say what they like about irs or ifs. I intended to trade trucks a year or so ago as i'm presently driving a 97 Ram 4x4. The only reason I haven't traded as yet is because dodge has now gone to ifs. More moving parts equals more junk to wear out if you use it offroad. I've had the privilege of riding the big three and in all honestly I made the correct decision in buying the 650. Granted I would have been just as happy with the 660 as I consider them equal in most respects other than irs. In my experience the 700s extra 150# is a killer. It sinks where the others, with plenty of rpm, float on through. Manufacturers and dealers alike need to spend more time riding with and talking to their customers. Then they too would become more educated as to the facts and not just publicized BS.
