Riding around last weekend and posted a message that I lost 4x4 on my rubi....Lifted it up and the shaft for the left front is pop'd out of the diff. Call the Honda guy and he says, that happens when you hit something really hard.....Ok what ever. I have not hit anything, I have no bruse's, ect...... So he says he will give me the benifit of doubt and put under warrenty (I hope so, I only have 76 miles on it and the 4 year warnty.)

Anyone else have their front drive shafts pop out? I purchased the repair manual for the 2001/2002's and can't believe that there is only a split ring on the spline that snaps the shaft into the diff.... wow that's all that hold's it in..... Any help from the group as to why this happen and if it's common what I can do, or not to do, to keep this from happening.

Thanks gang....

The snap ring is and always has been standard for holding CV equipped halfshafts(in cars ect.), generally they work fine, they are subject to 'pop out' in rare conditions(like debree, extrodinary suspension extention from damage or a lift kit), the fix is simple push it back in untill it snaps, if it doesn't snap into place in the diff there may be an issue of out of spec parts that may be under warrenty, assuming the quad and tires are stock or at least the same size as stock this shouldn't happen.

Yep, its just a snap ring. They are intended to be pulled out by hand when you service them. Just shove it back and give it another tug. If it stays in well, dont worry. If it comes out with ease, replace the snap ring.

I purchased my Rubi April of last year and since then have put 2600 miles on it in almost any terrain imaginable and have never popped my axle out. Chances are you hit something but didnt know it, IE a rock, small stump. Normally those are extremely durable, so I would question Honda about a possible factory defect. Dont hold anything against honda for this, because Everybody gets a lemon once and a while, no company is free of mistakes.
