i want to make my rancher ES 2x4 as sporty as posible. i dont want to get a pipe that is any louder then stock. but i want to get a K&N filter. if i got a filter, will i have to get a jet kit? what else can i do to give it more power w/o making it louder. i saw the custom bumber on the FST rancher in dirtwheels. how did they get it to fit? what would i order it by?. what other things could i do to make it look, and feel sporter. i would just trade for a 400ex or somthing, but my dad rides it and he dont want to trade it in. so i want it as close to a sport quad as i can get it.

 

those 25" blackwaters aren't helping you out any. You can open up the Air box, slip in a cam, up the carb size, just go to higlifter for a huge assortment of power up goodies. what does a cam really do? how hard are they to install? do you know of a pipe i can get that will increse power w/o being any louder? i dont want ppl to be able to hear me everywhere i go.

 

"Agressive" cams allow an engine to gulp more air(generally by opening the valves earlier and for a longer time, this effectively may raise the weak 8.8to1 compression's effectiveness), this is of course helped by larger carbs freer air filters and more exhaust capacity. A simpler improvement to a rancher that may be easier would be a higher compression piston, stock form is quite low at 8.8 to 1 an increase to the 10.5 to one range with premium gas should work with the rest of the stock setup and yeild the most bang for the buck. That (higher comp) setup improves efficiency(and therefore actual output power), nothing else.

edit added: changing the cam isn't much fun, the piston may be installable with the motor in place in the frame.

 

if you are looking for a good pipe take a look at the supertrap IDS 2. you can tune it for either performance or sound. buy it at Rockymountainatv.com because they sell them the cheapest.

 

can i make that pipe quiet enough to be about near stock? i dont mind the noise, its just that where i ride at, its around some houses and i dont wanna make anybody mad. but i want to be able to make it loud when i want it loud. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

The 2X4 Rancher is actually pretty sporty to start with. I would rate it pretty close to the 300EX in some ways. The stock bike is quite fast, but the balooney rear tires make it a bit tippy. The biggest drawbacks are weight and suspension. You can drop some weight (maybe 50lbs!!) by removing the racks, getting aluminum wheels, and maybe change to sport bike tires if you are that desperate. Works Performance has aftermarket shocks for this bike. I have an FMF MegaMax muffler and K&N with outerwears, which helped quite a bit.

 

i'm pretty sure that most aftermarket pipes will be louder than stock, but the supertrapp, from what i have heard isn't that much louder.
