Ok guys, my speed is in and I got to go pick it up tomorrow :-) Well since I wrecked my truck I need to get a trailer for my jeep cherokee. I called around today them little suckers are expensive. I am looking for a 5x8 utility. What should I get:

Landscape gate?
12,13,14,15 inch tires?
T or A frame tongue?
Wood or metal mesh floor?
What payload?

I have heard one with the A frame and largest tire I can get, well is this true or doen't it really matter. I will be using this to exclusively haul my speed around town and some long distance trips. Any advice on what I should get and more importantly WHAT I should PAY?

Thanks,
-josh

Costco had a nice trailer in there when I went there last, I think it was a 5X8 and under $800. I would get the wire mesh type floor, that way you don't have to worry about rotting wood, and the dirt and muck will fall through if you wash the quad on the trailer.

good deal Dex. New Speed !
I have a 5x12 angle iron frame trailer with a dropgate and 15" wheels. Load cap. 1500#. Cost was $525, plus $80 for new tires and balancing. You can hardly buy a new trailer around here with new tires! I can drive two quads on or load all 3 sideways. Loading 3 is a bear though and I will be getting a bigger trailer sometime. Enclosed maybe? Being able to carry 2 quads is pretty handy, gettin a 6x8' minimum would make haulin2 easier, and not cost anymore.

Ryanstones,

$525, that is da@m cheap, everywhere I look for a two bike trailer is $1000 or more.
Where did you pick yours up at?

Have you thought about one of those hitch carriers that slide into the reciever. This of course will required that you can have 500Lbs tongue weight.

What ever you do don't get tires smaller than 15". A couple of reasons, smaller tires turn faster than larger ones, that's why we call them bearing burners. If you get a flat, everyone has a 15" tire.

A-frames have less torsions stress than a T-frame.

Wood or metal, same but different pick what you like.

Landscape gate, hate them, always up in the wind helping you increase your gas milage, my trailer didn;t sit high enough to need a gate.

Load rating figure your quad wet with gear and extra gas and go 50% over. Quad 400Lbs gear and Gas 100Lbs =500Lbs so get a 750Lbs or higher trailer. That is still on the really small side.

I owned a Costco style of trailer once, once. Very weak and without a 1/2" sheet of playwood you could twist it in your hands.

This has been my expeiance, though sales of boats and other items.

I had a 5x8 with 15" wheels, 24" mesh sides, and a landscape gate. Worked perfect until I got my second ATV. I personally prefer a treated wood floor, mesh floor seems to be quiter and you don't have to worry about painting it every couple months to keep it from rusting. My landscape gate was also mesh, I can't imagine that a mesh gate would cause too much decrease in mileage. I believe I paid $650 for it.

I now have a tractor so I had to upgrade to a 6x16 double axle flatbed, little overkill for the ATV's but I can haul 4 on it.
