adjust valves

One of the C'dale owners in Arkansas was doing his own valve adjustment but can't remember who he was. Maybe he'll chime in and answer your question. Apparently C'dale is testing a new 450CC motor with easier valve adjustment, apparently you do not have to remove the motor!!

On Cannondale's website you can download the engine service manual and it has great directions and pictures to help you with that chore.
Not a new motor in the mid year. I hope they wait to the new model comes I just couldn't stand the rebuttle.

I find it hard to beleive that they would replace the 432cc with anything over 440cc because cdale is into racing, they have the moto which is race ready and a partnership with nacs. The 450 would not be allowed to race unless they destroked it. I don't see this being a smart move for cdale.

Who knows, maybe it will be an option on coming year models???? They should make the 440 and then a big bore motor and have the option of one or the other.

Well keep in mind Honda has alot of influence with the racing legislative bodies and they have been campaigning heavy to up the cc limit to 450, gee I wonder why!! I saw on another forum where someone just toured Cannondale's facility and witnessed a new 450CC motor. I'd give you the forum address but I'm sure I'll get a nasty gram again!! PM me and I'll send you the url address.

Thanks again Brian, guess you didn't read the bottom of the post....
You can adjust the valves on the current engine without removing it from the quad. There is a dowel pin under the cams that you need to leave out. I'm not planning on adjusting my valves after every race though, so I didn't pay too much attention to it. If you know any of the top mechanics for a Cannondale racer, they should be able to direct you in the right direction with this.
I do not know all the details or how safe it is. So don't try it at home without consulting a trained tech first.
