In an effort to lighten my machine some I was thinking about removing the radiator fan. Besides, mine is junk....makes a sqeeking sound when it runs.

I am running a HSP billet cylinder head which raises compression which last I checked made more heat. But they claim it runs cooler then the stock head so who knows?

I there anything I can do to make it run cooler and just forget about running a fan? Thanks.

I wouldn't ride without the fan unless you never travel under 30 mph or so. If you're looking to save weight in that department you could replace the Polaris fan with an automotive fan that's lighter but it will not be as water resistant.

If you use Redline's "Water Wetter" it makes the machine run cooler. This way you can get rid of the fan. It wont protect from freezing though, so in winter make sure you change back to antifreeze.

Like the others said, use the coolant additives like Water Wetter. Mix following the directions. Just been experimenting with a newly installed temp gauge. With the Water Wetter (4oz/gallon of distilled water)my machine runs 150-165 no matter what type of riding. I'm planning on installing the gauge on the other side of a Super cooler heat sink to see what the difference is.

Like Blazer said get anti-freeze in it in the fall!!!!!!

I have seen the "water wetter" before in catalogs but never thought to give it a try. I think I will now....then remove my fan...can't believe it weights 10 lbs.

I wonder if it also weighs 10 lbs on the Scramlber 500. Probably the exact same fan.

I've been running without fan since '97. I too use the Water Wetter. The heavier 4x4's and some 500's seem to need the fan as they are a larger load on the cooling system at trail speeds. May I suggest that you trail ride as normal with fan unplugged, and see how your bike performs. I'm in AZ. and I ride in +100 degree weather with no problems. Good luck!
