The bike ran fine last night, but I only ran it a few minutes at a time. Today I was riding and after about 10 minutes of riding the motor started cutting out and got worse and worse until it would only idle. It idled fine but would refuse to rev any higher. If I turn the ignition off and turn it back on it runs perfect, but only for a few mintutes. Then I have to repeat the procedure. I checked to make sure the fuel line wasn't pinched. Is the CDI bad, I hope thats it. I was planning on an aftermarket CDI anyway. What are your thoughts?

I would try this, Run the bike until it cuts out, as soon as it does, remove the fuel cap. If there is a vacume when you remove it, it is starving for fuel. There is a vent that goes around the bike that is located under the tank cover. check it, it might be clogged or melted and not letting it vent.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I already tried that. I had my fingers crossed, but no avail. That wouldn't explain how it starts right back up and runs fine for a few more minutes.

You might have something floating in your gas tank.

You guys seen "Slingblade"? Billy Bob Thornton is working on a tiller that wouldn't run, and he looks up and says "Aint got no gas in it!"

Seriously though, confirm fuel delivery to the bowl, there is a screen in the petcock valve on the tank, and then make sure the float/needle valve is letting it in.
Just a place to start...

mine did that once before right before the battery completely let go, so maybe check your charging system

I just got done putting on a new battery and tested it out. That was the problem! Then I came inside to post about it and I saw your reply. You are definitely right. The battery had sat for months without being used. When it started to get hot the voltage dropped way down. The CDI doesn't work too well when the system voltage drops below a certain threshold, and thus, the anomaly.

mine did the same thing a few weeks ago and it turned out to be the battery. Only mine did it all at once. I was out riding and stoped it was running perfect when i shut the key off and les than 2 minutes later it was dead as a dorenail. We had to push start it and then it would only go just above idle. Those darned batteries for this are not cheap either.
