Can anyone fill me in on what gets done on the 20 hour service for
a sportsman 700? Is there anything that the dealer has to do to it?
I would prefer to do everything my self if it is just changing the fluids and greasing all the fittings. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

when i take my quads to be servised for the first time i tell them "I only want the valves checked, i will to all the oil and grease my self". by doing this you save some $$. they charged me $20 instead of $70. $50 is a lot for me anyway. i decided i am not ready to do the valves myself yet, maybe next time i will be adventurous. i just didn't want to screw anything up.

bdsomers,
i was kinda wondering the same thing about the first service.
i'm going to call my dealer, then compare it to what my owner's manual recommends.
IF i choose to have my dealer do the work, i'll get a qoute first on how much $ it'll cost!
good luck!

Change the oil, clean the air filter and grease the fittings. The valves DO NOT need to be adjusted unitl 50 hours. Save money and do it yourself. Wix makes a comperable oil filter if you want to save $2. Use the Polaris oil. Good luck.

Looking at the manual, the only item recommended that the dealer do is re-torque the engine cylinderhead and cylinder base fasteners. Dealer wants 150.00 for service. Seems high for fluid change and torqing some fasteners. Has anyone done this themselves? Ive done the valves and other maintenance on my rubicon but Im not familiar(yet) with a polaris. hard time finding a service manual too.
Dont suppose anyone has the torque specs handy?

They also should check all cables for adjustment during the first service. Don't forget about the tranny fluid and front differential. The magnetic plugs were covered with break-in metal on mine when 12hrs was clicked off.

in my area the dealers have lowsy service help. in fact, i don't think their qualified to get the torque right on a drain plug!
adjusting cables, torque the head, change hub fluids- i just don't TRUST that my local dealers would perform these tasks correctly.
GOOD LUCK!
