Ok, after waitng a month to get the last one put on my bike, its doing it again. On start up the light will stay on until the motor gets hot. What could be causing this? i checked the connections to see if there is any water or anything in there and there was. I blew it out and it still does the same thing. Can you put some dielectric grease or something in the connection fo help repel water? Would it hurt anything? Also, does anybody know whow much one of those sensors cost? As much trouble everybody is having with them, including me. I am going to buy a couple to keep on hand.

A test needs done to insure the oil pump is putting out the correct pressure - this consists of a gauge being put in place of the sensor, and seeing if the oil pressure matches the shop manual specs. If it is in spec, then the problem is electrical. Dialectic grease won't hurt, but shoudln't be necesary. The contacts that open and close are sealed within the switch. They do not cost much - $10 I think?? The pressure check needs done....if it hasn't already.

Can I use any oil pressure gauge? Or is the threads a special kind on the DS?

We had the same problem with a friends DS.
And we did bleed the system.
The light would come on,but just a a little dimmer then when the key was on(and the motor off)
We swapped the sensor out with the one off my Baja...Same thing.....then we bought a new sensor ...same thing...What the f... is going on!
We did a oil pressure check...came out fine.
So we just ran it,after about 4 hrs of riding it stopped....Hmmmmmmmmm
The switch opens at about 5 or 6 lbs of pressure.
We also bypassed the temp switch to sure it wasn't the problem

So you say the switch opens at 5-6 lbs. of pressure. So if a dirt particle or something was at the end of the sensor could that clog it up and maybe block the sensor from reading the pressure? I am just grasping at straws here. I have not taken out the sensor yet to look at it. What is normal pressure while the motor is running? Also, If I were to mount a oil pressure gauge, where could I put the sending unit and what kind of gauge would hold up under riding conditions? Thanks.

My oil pressure sensor went bad on me also(right before the weekend). I think they are just a cheap part. They should last more than a couple months. I would like to find another sensor other than the one Bombardier sells.

Somebody on this forum said an oil pressure sensor off a 350 chevy fits the DS. Pressure settings were never confirmed, but if the snesor fits, and is found to be the correct working pressure, they are like $5 at Auto parts stores. Just a place to look, do a search on oil pressure sensor threads, you'll find the guy.

I saw the post about the Chevy 350 sensor. But I want to make sure it works without any ill side affects.

The sensor is just a simple switch which opens at ~10psi and interrupts the power to the light. The threads are either 1/4 or 1/8 pipe, can't remember but that is the only sizes in my pressure tester kit. There is nothing special about the switch that will cause harm to your engine if replaced by another brand. If you take the switch out and take it to the autoparts store (I prefer Napa for their awsome catalogs) have them match it up to one in the catalog. When mine fails again, that is what I'm doing.

"Okay, I just looked in the book and couldn't find any specs on the switch, but it does say that the minimum pressure at idle is 7psi, and 44psi at 6000 rpm.
So, obviously the trip pressure of the switch has to be below 7psi. My only concern with too low of a trip pressure is that this motor has an adjustable oil pressure regulator, that is subject to malfunction, and it is possible for the regulator to allow for insufficient pressure, even though some pressure is present.
For example : if the stock sensor trips at 4 psi to indicate low pressure, the same problem causing this low pressure at idle will cause low pressure at 6000 rpm too, where it is needed most, and instead of having 44psi you may have only 25 or 30psi. Therefore, when the light comes on, you shut down and toe it in.
But, if the sensor trips too low, like 2psi(hypothetically), and a problem occurs with the oil pressure regulator that progressively gets worse over the course of a ride, then the time it takes for the problem to show up on the red light is lengthened, and the motor ran a longer period of time with insufficient lubrication at high rpm's."

This was a post from Hightower. What he was talking about are the ill affects I was talking about.
