Not sure what quad you have, but there are alot of good options available for that need. My 650 has stock size Dirt Devils. They are incredible on harpack and good in mud. They are 6ply and heavy. I have Maxxis Sur Trak on my wife's Recon and they are 2 ply and ride much softer. They have great handling and are OK in mud as well.

I noticed you are in Knoxville, do you ride at Windrock in Oliver springs? if so, you may want to go to a 4 or 6 ply to keep those rocks from ripping out a tire.

If he has KT125s on the front, there is a good chance that it is a Prairie. Most quads could probably benefit from having better tires than Dunflops or Dunstucks.

I use 26" mudrunners on the front, and 26" sur tracks on the back. I love this combo very much, due to it being the lightest 26" setup I could find, and they are very well diameter matched. No drag in 4x4 at all. Mudrunners ride soft, and steer excellent. Plus, when the mud pit comes along, they pull really well. Mudrunners don't bite hardpack so well, but that does not matter on the front. The rear sizes of mudrunners are more than 10lbs per tire heavier, so I got the sur trak on the back. Sur traks are among the best for hardpack traction.

I got 26" because most 25" tires are much shorter than 25" (more like 24.3), and I usually can use some ground clearance.

If not getting stuck is more important than having fun on hardpack (while still being good on hardpack), Titan 589's would be a good choice. Not saying that Titans, Devils, runners etc aren't fun. But, I feel the lighter the tires, the more jumping and sliding control you have.
