I have not been out there this season. Technically it is probably a closed area, but I think the deputies have better things to do, so they don't usually bug you. Over the years, the place has been open and closed off and on, depending on if somebody complains or not. Nobody has ever bothered me out there. You might call the dealer in Beaumont (845-4882), they might have more current info. Probably, you will just have to go out there and see what happens. If anybody bugs you, just be polite and play dumb!!
The riding is typical So. Cal. stuff. There is a large flat area where you can rip around, a sand wash, and a hilly area with lots of rutted climbs. The most fun, is to run down the creek bed when there is water.

the place your talkin about is white waters? near palm springs right? that was an awsome place to go riding for the day. last time i was there the Ranger kicked everyone out and told us to go ride on the other side (north) of the RR tracks just down the road. but white waters has a large place to ride, u can even ride up the the "fans". awsome ride. any word if people started riding there lately? usally i see people parked under the bridge BBQ'ing and spending the day there. nice hill climb too

He's not talking about Whitewater, but the area where the I-60 and I-10 meet near Beaumont, at the head of San Timoteo Canyon.
I haven't tried Whitewater lately either (it's to hot this time of year anyway). Lots of people say it's closed, but you hear lots of other people say they ride there with no problems. It used to be one of my favorite places, because I could be out there in like 45 min. from my house. It made a great, quick day ride. I have never riden North of the tracks, but that might be an OK place????

There is a pretty good size sandy wash, but nothing that you could call a "dune". Beaumont is at the top of San Timoteo Canyon. I live about 10 miles downstream at the bottom of the canyon. There are several powerline and pipeline roads throughout the area, and you can ride the whole lenght of the canyon if you are willing to do some route finding. If you have seen the Huevos I video, there is somebody (Greg Stewart???) who jumps a bike off a cliff (it's in the early part of the video). It was filmed out here.
It is best to access the area going east on the I-10. Take the last exit before the merge with the I-60 (can't remember the exact name). Turn right off the onramp, and go down (San Timoteo Canyon Rd I think??) about 1 mile. There will be a railroad crossing. Cross over the tracks, and drive in a ways and find yourself one of the few shade trees to park under. Don't park out by the highway!!!
