The deepest I've been in was up to the floorboards. Hey, call me chicken, but it doesn't have four wheel drive. I usually ride by myself, and quite a ways from home so I really don't look to get stuck.
I have had water splash WAY over my head and completely drench me though.

no i wont call you a chicken because you wont go through 3 feet of water.
i ride with a friend that has a 98' scrambler 400 and i was wondering if the 97' sport 400 would be a good machine to buy if we rode together all the time.we like to ride on mountains and in water mostly, but we love riding 4-wheelers anywhere.
thanks for the help.

Hello atver400,
I have a 99 sport, and it is great. I ride with a few Scramblers. I never had to get pulled out yet. I was in a river up over the recoil, and mad it through. The only thing with these machines, is you get really wet. The water gets thrown right at you. I was out in the mud last weekend with a 500 Scrambler, and a Sportsman. My friend on the Scrambler and I were covered from head to toe in mud, but my girlfriend on the Sportsman wasn't even dirty. As far as any problems, I didn't have any yet. My starter froze up on a winter ride, but it thawed and is fine now. Just keep it lubed, and keep the chain waxed.
