Engine Ice or Redline Water Wetter??????
#2
I was using Redline for about a year but decided to switch to Engine Ice. My reasoning was that Engine Ice has to potential to operate at lower temps due to it's properties (up to 50 degrees F in some cases). A cooler running engine will last longer and the oil won't break down as quickly.
When using Red Line my fan would come on more than I liked. I noticed a difference using Engine Ice, as the fan almost never comes on now.
Here's the rub: When switching to Engine Ice you have to make sure all your old coolant is removed from the engine. If you don't, the Engine Ice (Polypropylene based) will react with the standard coolant (Ethylene Glycol based) and cause gelling.
I purchased about 5 gal. of DI water and flushed my engine a dozen times to make sure all my old coolant was gone. I drained, filled w/ DI, ran for 5 minutes, drained, filled, ran for five minutes, etc., etc., etc.
The Engine Ice is a little costly but I think it's worth it. One gallon should more than fill your quad. Also, you run it straight, i.e.; you don't dilute it.
