I am starting to regret getting a Sportsman 500 because of the set up ,with no engine breaking on the front wheels..I have been in some scary situation going down steep hills ...Where my friend with a Honda 350 with standard shift has no problems..I have only has it about 2 months ..
Another thing is having to stop to go into low range every time you come to a ruff spot...then stopping again to go back into high....My friend with a standard ,just shifts down and keeps going..leaving me to play catch up...
The method they explain here sounds inconvenate ..some times you dont have a space to back up 10 ft. to engage EBS on the front wheels...I am sorry to say I wouldn't recommend any one tto buy a Polaris..it's dangerous to follow other bikes..you think you can go where they go..but with this set up..it don't think so... Even the mechanic at the dealer mentioned this to me...

hotdog why don't you trade it in for a 500HO or is that the same transmission? If it is, buy a 500i arctic cat manual. For I live in calgary alberta and I ride in the rockies mountians, talk about steep hills, I go up most of them in 2ed high and 1st high on real steep trails. I can go down these same steep hills in 1st high without hardly using the brakes. It also gives you very comfortable ride.. So if you realy don't like your bike trade it in and get something that will make you happy. I am not trying to get you to buy a cat, but when I was looking to buy it was a honda 500, but I didn't like the drum brakes. Then I look at the 700 polaris but I heard it had a lot of problems and I didn't like the auto transmission so I look at the 500i man. arctic cat. I took it for a test drive , liked it, made a deal, bought it. I haven't turned back. What I'am trying to say, if you have hills, get one with a manual transmission and disk brakes.

People that have ebs are finding out they don't have adjustments on thier rear secondary clutch like the none ebs machines that do.None ebs machines can adjust thier secondary clutch by going to a 1 to 1 setting instead of 2 to 2 witch is stock setting. They would have the motor then connected going down hill or decelleration. For ebs systems try www.heelckicker.com .Both type of machines with heelclicker clutch kits would be motor connect, hill climbing, muck eaten, none belt slipen machines.

I might clarify that some auto's have engine braking in the front wheels. The Yamaha Kodiak and Susuki Eiger (auto) are ones that I know have it. That's Polaris's dirty little secret, ( no engine brake in the front wheels). I've seen too many sp riders slide uncontrolably down STEEP hills. I just laugh when Pol owners try to say how good their bike goes down hills. They just haven't hit what I call steep. Not knocking Polaris though as they are good quads, I just don't like the above and the height/ weight.
