Just got a 2001 Kodiac. I bought it used and its seems in pretty good condition. I had some questions about top end speed a week or so ago, but now after a couple of weekends of riding, I'm more used to the way it feels. I put 27" Mudbugs on it since it needed tires anyway.....by my calculations, that should only monkey with the gear ratio by a factor of 1.08. When I get stuck, or I'm towing a buddy out of some goo and I have good traction, that thing will bog right down and barely turn the tires. I'm riding at 4000 to 5000 feet elevation. Should I be trying a smaller pilot jet and a leaner needle position? What about the K&N power kits? Do they work? I don't need much.....if there is just a slight break in the traction that allows the engine RPM to come up slightly, the thing will stay in it's power band and be fine.
What about lighter clutch weights? If I recall correctly, guys that ran larger tires on the 660 Grizzlys would run clutch weights from a 600 with good success.

Well, no action here, eh? LOL! Oh well, I've tuned sled CVT's....I guess I'll just roll up my sleeves and get at it! I ordered a Supertrap exhaust system and a Dynojet kit. I'm hoping this will give a couple more HP and illiminate the need for tranny tuning. I'll keep y'all posted.

there must be something wrong, cause in low range my kodiak is like a tractor, reving is not a problem. i don't know all that much on auto's but i know 27" bugs actually measure 28". the K&N jet kit for the 450 doesn't do much, not sure about the kodiak

If you re-jet and add a K&N filter you will be laughing. Our altitude is killing us, I added 26 inch bugs to mine when it was stock and noticed a significant power drop. Next thing you will want to do is install the reverse over-ride, real pain in the butt when you are trying to back out of muskeg and it just coughs and sputters.
