I've got a '95 for sale! According to my service manuals (which come with the quad!) the '87 is a little different from the '88 which is a little different from the '89. From 1990 - 2002 they are pretty much the same with only the carb being the major change (three carbs: 1987, 1988-1992, 1993 and on). 4Wheel ATV Action magazine did an article on the Warrior a while ago (May 2001) which had quite a bit of information in it along with a list of Warrior tips and a list of mods that could be done to it.

Soem other minor things changed. The headlights went from square to round and there was a back-up recoil start on the early models too I believe. Overall, very little changes that made much difference.

There is a BIG difference, and the motocrossers from that time will tell you that it was a welcome one.

In 1989, Yamaha moved the engine rearward in the frame by an inch to create a better weight bias. If you think the front ends are "nose heavy" now, you should try jumping a pre '89 model.

Most riders who own either and don't race probally don't realize the difference.

If you are into jumping, go with a 1989 or newer. If you were to jump these two different models back to back, you will see what i'm talking about. it's amazing what an inch can do.
