Kodiak's Start Lever Froze Up
#1
Tried to start my "00" Kodiak the other day and couldn't move the start lever. So I yanked the fuel tank to get a look at this thing. I expected the carb to have a choke plate, but it uses another method to richen the starting fuel mixture. When the start lever is placed in the start position it moves the starter plunger located in the carb, and I surmise this allows fuel to flow through the starter jet and into the throttle bore. So what was the problem? A little moisture had gotten into the carb where the starter lever cable attaches and corroded the starter piston in its bore. I was able to break it loose and then work it back and forth to free it up. It's OK now, but as a preventive measure I gooped some RTV on the cable and fitting after I got it screwed back into the carb.
