Help! Sportsman 500 wont start

What a great site!
Problem: Sportsman 500 wont start. History: Just started (pun!) not starting, diaasmbled the carb and cleaned, idle and cold start fuel passeges are open. New plug. Cranks fine too but just spits back through the air box.
If I get it running on either it runs *perfect* and idles *perfect* too.
Sounds like ignition is way too far advanced, is that possible? Or the compression release is too aggressive but it is hard to pull over by hand.
