I am looking to legalize my off-road vehicle in alberta, but am running into approval problems with alberta transportation. They tell me that if the manufacturer sell's the quad as a off highway vehicle then the current legislation will not allow it to be used for highway use, even if you make all necessary changes. Anyone know how or what steps I can go to next? Any info would be a help.

 

May I ask why you would want to do that?

 

I am the type of person that likes to ride, not just talk about it. I think it would be interesting to be able to take the old girl downtown and be able to haul the groceries or lumber home. Try to do that on your 1100 shadow. If anyone can share ANY information on kits or even appropriate steps to get the approvals please respond.

You might want to talk to someone that has custom built a bike frame and all and see how they get it reg. Such as road trikes. That may be an angle you could use by calling your Quad a home built after you have modded it for road use.

 

That's something I don't understand myself. You can buy a trail dirt bike and add a light kit
and make it street legal so why can't you do that with a quad? My neighbor added a headlight & turn signals to his trail bike and he got it licensed for the street.
