Has anyone had a chance to run a 650 against a Raptor or similiar quad? With the mods anyone had done, was the race close?

My friend recently bought a Raptor, and I want to........well, you know!

 

Sorry buddy, but you will lose. Unless of course you race him through some really sticky mud, or up a really steep hill. Raptor's are fast, but hopefully with 1bearman's snorkle and cdi, and a jet kit, pipe, we may be able to run with them. Wouldn't that be cool!!! To be able to stay with the fastest quad made.

 

I raced my brother inlaw, he has a raptor. He has had if geared a little bit lower, other than that it is stock. My P650 is stock.
Every time we race, we get the same results. Dead Even until he hits 3 gear. Then he gets about 3-4 bike lengths on me.
One time we were riding up high and his bike wasn't jetted high enough. He still beat me on the bottem end, however I kicked his butt on the top end.
He might beat me in a drag race. But I and easily go more places and Yes I do spend a lot of time pulling his butt out of the mud holes.

 

After reading everyone's responses, I am really pleased. My modified 650 runs only 67, but the power is really impressive! I raced my friends stock '02 Raptor down the highw....uh, paved surface (highways are illegal) several times. We even swapped quads. I am not as good with the clutch as he is, but every time the 650 was running between 55-60 mph before the Raptor ever passed. I am impatiently waiting for the new cdi to hopefully increase my top speed. I am having a blast with my 650!!!

 

Just remember, no matter how fast you get the P650 up to, it willl never, EVER handle like a sportquad.Love your 650 for what it is man,,the baddest 4x4 out there.Don't neglect the fact that you can't pull stumps out of the ground with a raptor, they're really hard to find a snowplow for,there's no optional trailer hitch, its not comfortable for riding 2-up, and I've pulled more than 1 out of mudholes that didn't even slow the P650 down.

But I stilll can't, and don't ever expect to keep up with a Raptor on an MX track, or even a 300 EX for that matter.

I drag race anything and everything I see!!! I have raced a Raptor in our local sand and gravel pit for about 400-500ft.
The Raptor won by about 4-5 quad lengths. I have also dragged a Z400 several times and lost every time ( 4 lengths) except once when he may have missed a gear or something(it was dead even over the same distance as above) I raced a banshee in the same spot( and lost by about 5 quad lengths ) Wheel spin is a huge factor when drag racing...especially with sport quads. I always get the holeshot on gravel but they pass when they hook up. I raced a POL500 HO and blew it away in 4x4 but only won by a couple lengths in 2wd ( I spun my tires ALOT more than he did in 2wd ) I lost to a POL700 in 2wd by inches!!! I was shocked to say the least. However the rider was only about 75 pounds soaking wet! ( He races competitively in motor-cross and snow-cross on ski-doo's ) I still don't know how old he is but he is a SICK KID on every machine i've seen him on. I did beat him the 2 times we raced in 4x4 but only by a quad length or so. He had WAY better tires,no accessories on his 700 as to my UN-AERODYNAMIC trunk seat,winch,and balding stock tires as well as my 210lbs. The P650 is the faster bike no doubt about it. With the air intake mod,exhaust mod and C.D.I. unit the P650 will COMPLETELY DESTROY ANY AND ALL 4X4 QUADS out there with equal mods. I would have to say that it would most likely walk away from STOCK Raptors, Z400'S, and company as well ( at least on gravel where traction is a factor ) Hell ...There are pipped and jetted P650's Beating STOCK Raptors and banshee's in the dunes when wearing 4 paddles on em!!! And to the Honda Rincon ...I SAY BRING IT ON !!!!!!!!!!!
PS; Bearman has had the P650 up to 82 MPH !!! with the C.D.I. unit, and other slight mods!!!
