I weigh 240 and am 6 feet tall. I have been riding a 300 for over two years now and have always thought it suited me fine (size and power) until I looked into a 400ex. I really only do recreational riding on trails and such.

I am just curious how many other people here ride a 300ex and are over 200 pounds, because now I am thinking I am mabey to large for this size quad.

You need a 400ex really bad. Only thing no reverse if you are used to that. I loved my 300EX but it was time for an upgrade and at present my all muscle body is at 165 pounds.

I am 5'7" and 180 lbs. The 300 is OK until I climb a big steep hill. On the 300 I am kind of scrunched up and it puts me in a less than ideal position. Mostly I just have to stay seated because the bars would be in my chest. This limits the options you have for reacting to the terrain, and makes it more likely to wheelie the bike (at the wrong time). On bigger bikes, I can stand up, stretch out and distribute my weight, and react to the trail.

 

I am 5'11 and 135lbs, and the 300EX fits me fine. I really don't know why people get the 400EX anymore, when the Z-400 is the same amount of money and is better imo, but to each his own, not trying to start a flame, its just my opinion.

You are right but if he can get the $1400 discount in his area I would go for the 400EX over the Suzuki.

That's a lot of cat food for me or a weeks worth of parties on the beach watching the missiles fly over.

FuddRucker im 5'11 200+ pounds and my friend has the 300ex and i've ridden it. I didnt find it uncomftorable at all. Personally if you think it suited you fine it probably did. I didnt find it uncomftorable with leg room or anything but its up to you. If you have ridden it for two years then maybe you have just come to the point that you have mastered that quad and need something a little bigger to enjoy the trails more. But if you ride tight areas stick with the 300 it has the reverse and the size in tight trails would be a big difference

 

I bought both the 400ex and 300ex at the same time a couple years back (2000 model). One for my wife and one for me. I bought the 300 because of the reverse feature, but after having both, I wouldn't recommend the 300 for you. The 300 has good power, but the rear wheel base is shorter than the 400 and the tires are not as low profile so it has a tendency to want to go up on two wheels. Even in dirt it feels like your on concrete if you get on her. With the 400, you have to try really hard to get her on two wheels and the bike wants to slide out from under you rather than flip to its side. Hind sight is definitely 20/20, but I should've gotten 2 400ex's. My wife doesn't push her hard, but I think I'd trade off the reverse for much better handling and stability. Anyone want a 300ex for sale?? Let me know what price you'll take her for. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Plus that reverse isn't that handy because if you're stuck reverse rarely works cause the back end is so light.

Oh to answer your question, my wife is 5'4" and weighs 110 I think. I'm 5'8" and weigh 150.

I would ****** up a 400 ASAP at $1,300 off MSRP!! The one place the 300 excels is on really tight trails. Unfortunately, we have precious few of those here in So Calif. I think you would enjoy the increased power of the 400 out riding the deserts or dunes.

 

Thanks for all the replies everyone. You all make some good points. I think what I will do is hold on to the 300 for another few months until I get a fun runner, or a baja trailer, then pick up either a Z400 or the 400EX. Right now I am just hauling both 300's on a 10'x6' flatbed trailer and with the extra length of the 400's they would not fit. I know I could haul them with the front end up in the air, but I don't want to store them that way since I keep them on the trailer all the time.
