Hello all
Just bought me a new 02 red Grizz. Never had an auto before is there any do's or dont's I should know about. What about after market what are some things that I should be putting on my wish list. Any thing mech. that I should keep an eye on.
I think I got a real good deal $6835.00 out the door incl. the winch. Bought the extened waranty for $700.00 for 4 years (ouch, they had to get me some how). But for another $95.00 if I make no waranty claims in 4 years I get a full refund. I figured with all the servo's and electric gadgets on this beast that if something does break then the warranty will pay for itself.
Sorry for rambling but can't sleep think I will read my manual again. Going to Wayne National Forrest Labor day weekend, about how many miles are you all getting on a tank.
Thanks for any and all responses.

congratz on the new bear!!! man, i remember when i got mine, wow, what a rush!
some tips. break her in real nice and easy for about 100 miles or so, then beat the **** out of it, lol.
adjust the valves at 20 hours, then again every 25 hours or so. the manual says every 150, but they tighten too fast. the 3 intake are always going tight on most of us.
the first and most important thing to mod is quite easy, THE TIRES!!! the stock tires really suck! get some mud bugs, titans, or even mud runners, but toss the stockers.
stay below the top of the fenders in water, or you will flood the belt out. if it becomes a problem, snorkle the belt drive.
if you dont have slits in the side panels of the quad, then you might want to look around at others mods, and make some holes for air to circulate.
if you want alot more, the highlifter has a power performance kit for it. it has a jet kit, a k&n filter, a prefilter, a spark plug, and best of all, a stainless steel supertrapp exhaust pipe. total cost is under $450.00 shipped. results, (priceless) heehee.
have a ball, and ask all the questions you need to, couse alot of us have some answers!

Thanks mich
I already have a set of 25" bearclaws from the Wolv I am selling. Thanks to you and silverbear you helped me make my decision. I had wanted a 650 Prarie but didn't like hearing about all the belt problems, not bashing so please no flaming. I think they are both great machines, it was a hard decison to make. But I figure I am not getting any younger and the I.R.S. will be nice to have. I have a friend who is going to make me a new end cap to give that bear a nice throaty grroowwll. He also said that someone already has a pro flow set up for the Grizz. Would like to get the front and back bash plate and a-arms plates once the back account recoperates.

Labs,
I recommend bypassing that reverse limiter. Other than that....ENJOY!!!
Another really nice feature that i put on mine (and everyone that i ride with uses) is a Tamarack rear box. There are hundreds of brands out there too. I love the dry storage for carring those extra pair of socks, rain gear, TP, first-aid kit, etc. Everyone always adds thier gear to my box to keep it dry. Also to carry drinks and snacks too!
I wouldnt recommend the box i got just because of the way it opens. You have to get off the bike and open it from the back. I have seen other boxes out there that you can open from the front. Also, get one with a back rest.....it is nice to just kick back and relax when you are taking that brake! I dont like the ones that actually have "another seat" on them. They get in the way for shifting your body wieght around during tough riding. Just my opinion and hope you have a blast.
You are welcome to come up to God's country and spend a weekend riding with us!!!

Not that i know of....
The reverse rev limiter is put on the automatic to keep you from going....say 30-40 and flipping the bike over! lol
Your big bear is one gear "reverse".
Hope this helps.

Thanks frogman on the invite would love to sometime. In my younger years thats where my parents took us for our summer vacation. Only made it to U.P. a couple of times sure is beatiful country. Have to get the wife someting better first other than her 2x4 250 Quad ruuner, she just won't give it up.
Is the reverse limiter hard to bypass?
also
Do you have to really watch wether your in high or low range as much as the 650 prarie guys or is this beast built a little better? Just concerned about belt ware!
Thanks again,
Brian

i am glad i was part of the desition on the grizzly! it is nice having irs on a quad. when i was 20,or even 30 for that matter, the solid rear axle was it for me. but, 1 less knee to go on makes that a hard riding day. so, the irs is it for me. i wouldn't trade it for anything.
the belt system on the grizzly is engaged as soon as you put it into gear, thus leaving no play in it at all. this is suppost to make it bulletproof on wearing out. i have yet to meet, or hear from anyone who had to replace theres due to wear. no adjustments in it either. just clean it every once in a while, and floor it alot. my rule of thumb is that if i am on tech trails, i leave it in low. but first sign that the trail is opening up, streight to high i go, heehee.
i am happy to hear you allready have tires for it though!!! leaving them the stock size means no need for a clutch kit either!
when you do the exhaust mod, its going to lean your quad out alot, thus making it run hotter, burning valves, and so on. i did mine, and its sitting in the garage on a shelf, lol.
a rule of thumb is if your going to do 1 thing, do them all. by opening up the exhaust, your leaning it out. then you'll have to rejet for more fuel, and then you'll need a better air filter to let more air into the mixing process,( kind of like chasing a dogs tail, aint it?) when i did my exhaust, i could not dial it in at all with stock parts. so i went to the complete system to do it all right.
might i sudjest at least getting a jet kit, and a filter, like a k&n.
go to a 155 main jet, 4th clip on the needle, and 2 1/2 turns out with the modded muffler, and then smile alot, heehee.
good luck!!!

Thanks Mich for the info.
I will boost the tire pressure up to 8 psi and crank up the shock settings to second notch from the top during break in, then swap tires. I have a friend who got the c series wheels with the lugs and center hubs delivered to his door for 275.00. Not sure if I will go that route or he said he would just sell me his stock rims so I can have two sets of tires ready to go, one for hard pack and one for mud .
Tried to get the dealer to swap the tires but no dice. Can't wait for this weekend wish I had gotten this bad boy a little earlier to break in. These guys like to move and I will only be able to do around 1/2 throttle .
