400 EX Brakes... can I adjust or need to upgrade??
#1
Hey all,
I have a 400EX and wife has 300EX. Her brakes are so much more sensitive than mine. I know with discs, I didn't think you could really adjust this. I really don't like my brakes being too touchy, but for instance, I can't get my front brakes to lock on concrete (not that this would come in handy) but it doesn't have the power to say bring up the rear end. I give it all I got and really not that responsive. Is there anything I can do or do I need steel braided cables for this?? Why would the 300 be soooo different? Any input would be great.
Thanks.

Most of it has to do with master cyclinder size, brake line expansion and piston volume.
Have you Bled your brakes to ensure that there is no air? Or changed it completly? Which is a once a year deal. Are your pads good? Is the master cyclinder holding fluid and not allowing it to go past the piston in it.

My pads are fine. As far as bleeding the brakes... what does this entail? I've heard about this, but never have done it. Is it difficult to do? As far as the brake fluid levels, they're where they should be. Is that what you mean about the master cylinder holding fluid?

OK, Pads are good, that's the easy one.
How to bleed your brakes should be in the claymore or other repair guide.
When a seal goes bad in your master cyclinder it will allow the fluid that your trying to move go backwards past the seal. If you can squeeze the brake and hold it does it get softer?
If the brakes feel spongee than you have Air in the lines.
