Getting the rust out (of the tank)
#1
Good evening,
I just got an '85 200s. The tank is really bad inside and needs to be cleaned. In the past I have used Muriatic Acid. This works extremely well, but on bad tanks, it can cause pinholes. I thought I would post and see what others have done in the past to clean out tanks?

There is an entire tank refurbishing kit that you should be able to get from any motor cycle dealer. Basically there are two parts - first you use acid to clean out the rust, then you pour in a two part epoxy (the brand I used was called 'cream'). You do have to remove the tank so you can swirl and coat the entire tank but it works great. The cream creates a gas-proof liner and eliminates all those small rust flakes. I use it on an old Honda 125 motorcycle and had no problems. I can't remember the price but it's much less than finding a new tank.

Jaybee,
So, I am guessing that thie epoxy will seal the pinholes?
Thanks for the info, I'll check around tommorrow for a kit. Although all I really need is the epoxy, since I would guess that the kit would include some muriatic acid, which I have anyway.
