There are two ways to go about this......

Get the Blaze if you like the suspension that it provides stock. If you aren't happy with it, buy a Cannibal and mod it to your liking.

I sell many more Cannibals to racers than i do any other simply based on the fact that it's easier to modify to your own liking. Most disagree, but it isn't always cheaper by buying the unit dressed for the occasion if you know what I mean.

If the races you will be particiapting in are more suited to motorcycles [tight] you may want to look at the 400EX or Z400.

If they aren't tight and have alot of open spaces, the Cannondale's are the ticket.

I race harescrambles and find myself wanting two quads for the race season so that I can choose one for each type of race. It wasn't in the cards this year, but will next season.

ok....if you havent raced harescrambles or cross-country alot before you might want to consider getting something that wont plant you like a seedling from the starting line cause those dales have the best throttle response ive ever seen on a quad. they are nothing like a carburated(sp) quad....."when you hit it , it will go". They are for some more experienced riders to me. I've been riding since I was 4 years old and im fixin to turn 21 in a matter of weeks and i still dont think i could handle the power of KNOWSALOT's dale ever since i climbed aboad it sunday for about 5 minutes.

I guess it all depends on what class you want to run. 4 Stroke Stock, like lt250r91 runs would limit your choice to the Speed or Cannibal. In that class, you can't change the exhaust or suspension. I would want to go with the Speed (like lt250r91). If you are going 4-Stroke Modified or Pro Production, I would either go with a Cannibal and personalize it or buy a Blaze and race it straight from the showroom. With the Blaze, you already have awesome supsension that just needs to be dialed in to suite your body and riding style and Ohlins has a van at the GNCCs that can help you with that. As far as the width concern goes, the 46" that the 'Dales come at is fine. Ballance runs his R at about 46", at least that's what his pit crew told me at the John Penton. Again, lt250r91 has first hand experience with a Speed in the GNCCs, so I'm sure he will have more insight into the width issue.

I race Cannibals in the Harescrambles. As Knowsalot was saying you can set them up the way you want to. You can also do it over time rather than shelling out the big Blaze price tag at once. I did use the Blaze front Ohlins and have been very happy. I have a 2002 Cannibal I'm looking to get rid of cheap if your interested. Only ridden 10-15 times. It would save you alot of money so you can put more toys on it.

As CBUS660R said it depends on the class you plan on running. I am racing a speed in the Stock 4-stroke class. If this is the class you plan on running then buy the Speed or z400.
If it's a differnent class I would go with the z400 or cannibal.
BTW the dealer I bought my cannondale off of has discounted to 02 cannibals to $800 off retail do to the fact he needs to make room for the 03's. Valley ATV in Danville, Ohio. Valley ATV
Personally I would pick the cannondale over the Z400 for racing, but trail riding it's a toss-up. The reverse is a nice option other than that the cannondale is better in every other area (other than price).

Next year I plan on running a 300cc GasGas 2-stroke in the Open A class. I don't know the plans of the Speed yet. It'll either be the pratice/back-up or I might let my younger brother race it in the stock 4-stoke class. He wants to start racing, but can't afford buying a quad yet (he's only 17). If it becomes the back-up I'll add a new exhaust and upgrade the front shocks to triple rate remote rezzies w/ comp adjustment.

Check out the Gas Gas quad update thread in the forum if interested in their quads.
