Can the dealers do this?

Yes. They can sell them for above retail. Not only with cannondale but any other brand they carry as well.
I haven't seen any that sell them over retail though unless they come equipped with dealer installed accessories that require a bump in price.
The other way around [well below retail] are what hurts the industry more than anything else.
The dealers who sell at retail usually have a highly trained staff on hand as well as a knowlegable staff that require that extra bit to pay the bills and to pay for that training and skill. I wouldn't work at at some place selling at cost because I would be wondering who pays my salary....LOL
The dealers who sell well below retail or de3aler cost usually have a slacker in the back who puts them together and a gum chewing broad in the office who types and answers the phone and that's it. Sound absurd? Nope. I know of a half dozen in our region alone and even worked for one years ago. these guys line THEIR pocket books and not the employees.
There are 19 employees on our payrolls and almost all of thm have been in the industry for 20 years or more. Who would pay them their worth if we threw all the profits away with each sale??
Sorry. I got waaaaay off track here. it's just that i have worked for these types before and even though from a consumer standpoint, it SEEMS like a good thing....it isn't. Who's going to change your oil when you take it back?? ....The receptionist??..LOL
Oops, I got off track again.
