Default Best gear set up for lt500?

For all around trashing...dirt, trails, drag, dunes, whatever? i'll be running 20x11x9or10 tires. The motor's pretty mild i think (mild port work, little off the head and a paul turner pipe)
thanks in advance, yannick

Many many variables Fast1, I would recommend purchasing a few different sprockets if you can afford it.... I change gearing for each type of riding I do... Different conditions require different gearing for optimum performance. (Rocky MTN. ATV has primary drive sprockets for really cheap)

For the 20" tires, I'd try a 13/40 combo for starters... That's what I run for dirt tires (22") for all around play riding.

For sand and sand drags, I run 13/42 with 12 paddle haulers (22") but I'm probably running a tad bit more ponies than you.

Just experiment to find out what works best for your situation and riding style/conditions. Races can be won/lost with just a little change in gearing.

Hope this helps

I agree Duneaddict! I use a number of combos for all the differant riding. I run 12/42 for technical rocky stuff, 13/40 on 18x11x10 fast trekkers for trail riding, 13/40 or 13/42 for the dunes on 10 paddle haulers 20x10x10, and 14/40 on the dune drag strip.

When you run the 14/40 on the drag strip are you leaving the starting line in 1st or 2nd gear? Does that combo pull harder in the bottom or top of the gears?

I start out in second gear with the 14/40. It pulls extremely hard on the top end, but it has decent torque on the low.

14/47 with 400EX rear tire's work's for my Zilla,in the sand I can pull 3rd gear holeshot's without a problem,on hard pack dirt 2nd gear hole shot's,never tried a 40 tooth back sprocket yet, look's like I'm going to call sidewinder and get one...

I have a stock '90 LT500, still running strong on the original piston. I have the original chain and sprockets and am going to change them. There are some good sprocket combos on here but since I am running stock I want to make sure these will work well for me before I go buy the stuff. What do you guys recommend for dunes, trail, technical, drag for a stocker. I will eventually mod the thing when it finally get's tired but want to know a good combo for now. Also I want to get some better paddles (came with 8 paddle 20X10X10 v sharks) I want to get the 20X10X10 10 paddle haulers. Is this a good setup?
