Hi All, I am going to buy a new 700 4x4 and I was wondering if I should get extra warranty on it , Do you really think it is needed?? I hear there is a little problem with the water pump cover leaking but is there anything else that I should ask them to address before I buy it??? I can use all the information I can get on the machine, I am new to this 4x4 trail riding and machines, How does it compare to the Yamaha Grizz 660?? I live in the north east what price should I pay for it ? What prices have you seen?? the shop say he can let a new one go for maybe 6800 or 6900 hundred is that good?? Thank in advance

I'm picking up my sp700 tomorrrow, $7185 otd, that's with 6% sales tax. I'm also getting the extended warranty. Normally i don't get those on anything but with only a 6 mo factory warranty and with the problems i've heard about, i think it's a good idea. hope i didn't get screwed too bad.

I bought mine for $600, it has a $25 deductible and covers 60-months. My dealer sell the policy from Pinnacle rather than Polarisar. There is even a cash refund if you never have a claim during the 60-month period. My dealer is currently checking on the refund offer. I'll keep you posted.

those extended warrenties aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
say $700 for 5 years.
take that same money, service the quad more often, buy a brush guard bumper, and this is a must , some full a-arm quads to protect the cv boots from puntures, and ditch the lil ear flap cv guards that come stock.
Put the rest of the money in the bank, the most you'll probably end up spending is about $300-$500 for 5 years
and that covers everything from crashes to all the many many items that are excluded in the warrenties fine print.
keeping the money in the bank covers everything from new batteries to abuse.
you get 6 months unlimited use from the factory that covers pretty much everything, and any defective manufacturer parts will show up right away.
also since you don't have to worry about upholding a warrenty (wich has a deductable anyway on the extended ones)
you are free to modify the bike how you want.
(your really gonna want a clutch kit for a 600 or 700 sportsman)
now if you had a wave runner, or snowmobile, i'd say get the longest warrenty you can buy.
say $700 for 5 years.

Should you get the warranty.... yes and no. If you get it and you have any problems after the first six months Polaris will very clearly tell you they dont offer the warranty only sell it. Depending on your dealer how good he is to you (I thought mine was fine, but I was wrong) they will blame the problems on you and say it wont be covered. Then after making a stink about it they cover it but then charge the sales tax and the fee for having the warranty. This is not a warranty of Polaris and hoops need to be passed to get things covered. All the warranty is an insurance form. When a claim is nessasary a agent will be sent out to knock your wheeler. Time will be a factor geting this fixed. You have to agree to pay the dealer to take the wheeler apart and determine what is wrong with it. After its torn down the dealer needs to write up an estimate and fax it to the company. The company will check it out and send an agent. There is opnions asked from the dealer, so if you drive in mud or water be careful cause the company will deny you a claim. If the claim is not denied the company will pay for the tear down. There is no way to get around this. I have tried for two claims in the 2 1/2 years of owning my wheeler. One OKed after making a stink and the other one denied and cost me $1250 out of my pocket.
With Polaris's record of minor things going wrong I would say get the warranty, it should help sell the thing down the road. But, remember this warranty is not close to as good of a warranty as Polaris's, GM's, Ford, ect.
Try and deal on your warranty when I bought my 54 month warranty from the one Polaris offers I paid $350. They will deal on it.
Since it is a Polaris get the warranty, but beware.

I paid $660 for the five year zero deductable Polaristar extended warranty. I have used it only once so far but got about half of the cost back due to the starter locking up on my 02 SP700. The starter had to be replaced because individual parts for it are not available from Polaris. All dealers charge different prices for the extended warranties, so shop around. I know of a local dealer who is charging $950 for the same warranty as mine. I think it is a good investment, especially on new models.

i agree with PolarisMech,
spend the dough on mods, improvements, and regular maintenance.
the only other thing i'd suggest is INSURANCE! ATV thefts and accidents are real problems these days. so if you really want to protect your investment.......spend $$ on good insurance.
that's my 3 cents!
