New Clutchcover with Drain
#1
I hear that Polaris has added a drain plug to the clutchcover on recent model ATVs. I have already realized the problem caused by a wet belt when I "cleaned" my ATV and effectively filled the clutchcover with water. (Didn't realize it was vented and where those vent openings were!).
Anyone know if this new clutchcover will fit on a '99 Xplorer 400? (has this cover been consistent in dimension)
Thanks - Dave

well this might work...........you could try to drill a hole in your exsisting cluch cover and then find out some how to put a plug in it that wont lent in water, dirt, dust and such.......but that is just an idea....saves you the 80$ if u could do it i guess...maybe a bolt that is slightly bigger than the hole might work......or a quark.....?

I put a drain plug on my cover. It only cost me $6.00 from Napa. You can get a piggy back oil plug and drill a hole in the bottom of the cover. Use some silicone, screw in the plug and your done.It is like an oil plug on a car but it has a smaller plug piggybacked in the center. It is used for stripped out oil drain plugs. It works great and saved me $80.00.

You could drill a hole in your cover and use a short valve stem for a tire. Take out the valve so it would be an open hole and put the cap back on. probably want to silcone around it after you put it in.

put your own plug in...
I put in a 3/8" NPT plastic plug (don't remeber how much but prolly less than a dollar at the hardware store)

check heelclickers.com. I think they talk about needing new cases for older models to use some of their clucth kits. They may have specific info.
Also, don't use the tire valve idea as the lip of the inner stem would leave 1/16 to 3/32 of water in the case. I'd consider something like a small freezeplug. Also, perhaps waterproof lining like filter wraps (I forget their name) would just as easily solve the problem...
