Maintenance 4 times a year on a Honda?!?
#1
I am currently ATVless, but I am going to get a Rincon in either Feb. or March. My local Honda dealer is saying that any Honda I purchase will have to undergo a minimum of 4 trips to the shop in the first year or else I void my Honda warranty. After that I have to bring it in every 6 months. This is the first I've ever heard of anything like this. They are saying that the trips to them will be a minimum of 150 and that I could spend as much as 4 grand on the 4 trips combined. ARE THEY INSANE??? Everything I've heard, especially on Hondas, is that you keep the oil changed and it will seldom let you down and you certainly won't be in the shop much at all. Some advice here please.
thanks

As far as mandating that bring your ATV in 4 times a year is a bunch of crap. All you have to do for maintenance are oil changes which the last time I checked were not $150+. I have never heard of such a thing. I think your dealer is a bit crooked. Finally, it's true (in my opinion) that you keep the oil changed and it will seldom let you down and you certainly won't be in the shop much at all. I have a 2001 Rancher and it has never let me down.

You have a good example of a dealer wanting to buy a new fancy car or ? There are dealers like that. I bet that he is selling it to at some special price, but when he gets done it will be more than list with freight, assembly, and so on. Go check out another Honda dealer.

Ramblin, it does seem a little odd that he says it needs to come in at least four times in the first year, otherwise the warranty is void. Around here the warranty is six months. Usually they like to see the quad after about 20 hours or so, to adjust valves, change oil and etc. That service is around $150 or so. In other words that dealer is full of it. Check someone else out. Good quading.

Check out another dealer. Warranty is only 6 months. Even if you buy extended warranty, there is nothing to say that you can't have maintenance work done elsewhere, same as owning a car, you just have to keep your receipts to show that the work was performed. My bike hasn't been back to teh dealer yet!!

I work in sales for a Honda dealership and will tell you to GET FAR AWAY from this dealership NOW!
I also OWN a Rincon.Maintenance?Well, for starters, you'll need an oil change and valve adjustment at the FIRST 100 miles or 20hrs,which ever comes first? This will cost you 2hrs of labor for the valve adjustment and about 25 bucks for oil/filter.Should be around 150 to maybe 175 bucks, depending on the dealerships labor rate? They should also make any other adjustments at this first inspection, like idle speed, brake adjustments, clean air filter, tighten loose nuts/bolts ect?
Than, you'll want to change the oil/filter every 600 mile's.If your valves are not noisey, which they very rarely are at this point, than dont readjust them till the NEXT 600 mile oil/filter change.
Dont fall for this crap and good luck!

thanks for the info from all. That helps a ton. I'll go with another dealer and be quite a bit more confident about what I'm getting into. I'm getting antsy I want it so bad now that I may not be able to wait until Feb., it may happen this month.

My old (retired) Honda dealer would throw in the first service for free labor, I just had to pay for the oil & filter. I think they did that so people would bring them in, so the mechanic could look it over & be sure everything was tight, etc. He has since retired, but my Polaris dealer does the next best thing: initial oil change, check all other fluids, check valves, & look it over good for a flat $50 (includes oil & filter).
Needing to take the bike back 4 times in a year to ensure your 6 month warranty isn't voided? Sounds fishier than a Norwegan tuna cannery to me.
