400EX vs. Scrambler 400 2wd/4wd vs. trx 250r
#1
I am looking to buy a new quad in the spring and i would like to make a decision between the 400EX, Polaris Scrambler 400 2WD/4WD, and the TRX250R. How is the scrambler 400 at speed and acceleration. I need something fast, jumps good, goes through lots of obsticales like mud, high water, high jumps.

Let me get this straigh, you want either the 400EX, Scrambler 2x4, Srambler 4x4, and the 250R? Wow, talk about apples and oranges!
What terrain do you ride?
Do u need 4x4?
Do you want 2-stroke or 4-stroke?
Auto. or manual?
Answer those questions and I think it will help you choose because in your answers it cancels out a couple of your choices.

Out of the requirements you listed the Scramblers would have trouble with the jumping part. It's not that they can't jump. They are just not as good at it as the other 2 quads you listed. Everything else you listed they would excel at though. The rougher the terrain you ride the more it favors the Scrambler, especially the 4WD one.

I don't need a 4wheel drive, I like to ride on the rail road beds down in new hampshire. I like the sand pits off of the railroad beds and I like the sand dunes. I race a lot of people on 125 bikes in the pits. I would like to put up a good fight

In that case I think the 400EX is an awesome quad. I would look at it, that is if you're not going to want a "bunch" of power potential. Otherwise the 2 strokes would be a good choice. But you may be hard pressed to find a 250R in decent shape that some one hasn't messed up yet.

MX,
Do you consider REVERSE as something you need?
Whats more important, ROUGH terrain ability, jumping, mud, or are you a SPEED JUNKIE???
If you wanna race fast 2-stroke dirtbikes, you might be best off going bucks up and buying an aftermarket 250R...
If you like Reverse, comfort, liquid cooling, electric start, and good acceleration but NOT the fastest go with the Scrambler 2 OR 4 wheel drive.. (therein lies ANOTHER decision to be made)
If you aren't mechanically inclined, or if you don't have the extra bucks to spend on a good mechanic, then I would look into a 4-stroke machine such as the Honda 400 EX or Scrambler 500 4x4.
Granted, when the 4-stroke does finally wear out, it will be more expensive to rebuild and it takes twice the money to get half the power out of a 4-stroke but 2-strokes require more frequent maintenance and top end rebuilds.
Decisions, Decisions..... Good Luck...
Heck, just buy TWO different machines for two different moods!!!....

buying two quads for two moods would be great but not something that i could afford. i like to go fast jump but i hate to rebuild something every year. now i heard that the 400ex is just as fast as the 250r until the 250r gets into 6th gear. is that correct. i also heard that the 400ex has a great jumping abiblity, cornering, handeling and lots of torque.

I'll stick with the Honda's to talk about here. The 400EX has great accelration, top speed, handling, suspension, and jumping ability. the 250R is almost just the same except has a higher top speed and a little better in the jumping department. And since you dont want to rebuild every year, well then you should go after the 400EX. if you really dont want to spend the bucks for that you should look into a 300EX, they are great reliable machines, just not the punch you would get from the 400. One major difference i can think of between these two is that the 300EX can pull the front end up in 3rd gear, and the 400 can pull them up in 4th, which tells you of the power from either machine. You should take a look at a new EX(either of them). that is my 3 cents.

The 400EX is like an improved 250R with a 4-stroke motor. Very nice! Top speed is about 65 give or take a few mph.
BTW-RangerSX, do u got a Polaris Ranger?
