Steering Stem bearing removal?
#1
(2001 Banshee) The base of the steering stem sits in a few bearings which I am having a tough time removing. It looks like there is a large bolt that needs to be turned out but I am not sure. Anyone have any idea?
Thank you

After you take the steering stem out, remove the seal on top. Then, there is a large nut with hex inner that must be removed from the top. There is a special tool available from yamaha, or you can use a chisel to work it around. After you remove this nut, the bearing will drive out the top.
Hope this helps,

Verno, when you take your frame to the powdercoaters, put that nut back in place. This will give them something to tape to and it will keep sand and paint off the threads. Just some advice.

Hey, Thanks for the tips guys, I really appreciate it. This is the beggining of a large project for me so I will probably be posting more questions as I go, so I hope to hear from you again. Also if you have any tips for re-assembling a banshee please let me know.

Get a big roll of masking tape. Put a "flag" on each bolt or part telling where it goes. Take a bunch of pictures of the complete bike. I find both of these helpful. I know about every bolt on the banshee, so pm me if you need help.
