Default Vinson vs Kodiak 400

Hey there,

Just found this site today. For knowing just about nothing about 4 wheelers, this site rocks!

I'm currently looking at the Kodiak 400 4x4 auto. Have a price on the camo one for 5500 and can get the winch for 69 bucks more. The other model I'm looking at is the Vinson auto for 5800 or manual for 5600. The prices are w/o tax and other charges.

Are those prices good? or is there room to negotiate?

What about the Polaris Sportsman 500? People have told me good and bad things about this one.

My main usage will be for ice fishing in WI and trail riding in the summer.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Brad

ps: Any good sites to find trail info for WI?

$5500 for a 2003 Kodiak 400 sounds a little high. My local dealer (Anchorage, AK) has been running a special all fall for $4999 with the $69 winch deal. That is not a camo unit, so maybe you can add a little for that. Also find out if he'll install that winch for free or it he's going to hit you for a mounting kit and labor.

The unit I would prefer to buy is a 2002 Kodiak 400 which still had a low range and a locking diff, but I can't find any around the area.

I bought my 2003 450 Kodiak for 5600$ +69$ for the plow + tax and registation fees in Sept. Mine is red and the como color does cost a little more but I doen't know how much. I got the 450 because it has low range. It does have the locking differential too. The 400 doesn't have these features. I have been very satisfied with mine.

As I'm typing this meesage I'm looking at an ad in the Cycle Trader. The ad states they have the following deals

2003 vinson auto 4x4 4,988

2003 vinson manual 4x4 4,788

This dealer is in Pennsula Ohio. Phone # 330-929-8123

I don't know how far the drive would be but the savings would make the trip worth your time.

That vinson is a pretty good deal from what I've seen. Its about $500 more around here. Of course, that drive is around 7000 miles round trip for me, so I don't think its worth it.
