Default '03 Ruby woes......(kinda long)

Hey all,
I've been outta the scene for a while (sold my honda 4x and got a honda dirtbike)...anyhow, a friend of mine just bought a new '03 Ruby this week....he loves(d) the quad but in the 1st 20 miles he has found a serious flaw.....
He put the shifter lever in "LOW" and was driving in a meadow and went about 50 feet and the selector kicked out .....the bike went into neutral! well, he thought it was a fluke....so what's goof do???? of course, he looks for the steepest hill climb he could find....Just as the front wheels crested the climb, the same thing happens.....KICKS INTO NEUTRAL....talk about pucker factor...good thing he had someone to help him hold the front end down or it would have been winter olympics all over again.....
Anyhow, he says that the bike will stay in "D" or regular gear just fine.....he call the dealer (none too happy about it) and told them to fix the bike or give him a new one.
The purpose for this post is to find out if anybody else with an '02 or '03 has had or heard of this problem?
Thanks in advance for any info rendered.

Sounds like the shift linkage needs to be adjusted. I do believe this should be a simple fix.

Specta,
Thanks, that's what his dealer said.....he was just a little bummed that they sent him home with a $6k quad that would potentially kick out of low and into neutral and posing potential danger (a perfectly functional 4 wheeler is absolutely 100% safe, right?)....anyhow, i don't know that the dealer would recommend a monster hill climb at 15 miles on the odometer....but hey, we all gotta learn.

Anyhow, thanks for the info....any others?????

Will check back....

John

Ah, sounds like yet another dealer that didnt do ANY dealer prep. Checking the shift linkage is something that should be done. I'd also assume they didnt check the toe out, brake cables, throttle slack, etc.

If you have a windshield make sure it is not hitting the shift lever. sounds like somthing simple like that!
