This model Polaris ATV has 5% (of list price) dealer holdback.
This holdback money is paid to dealers in at the end of the model year for units that are sold within the previous 12 months. Dealers must pay Polaris the full "Dealer Invoice" price and wait up to 12 months after selling the machine to receive their dealer holdback.

Wholesale Incentives: Program Period: August 1 - December 31, 2002

$150 Dealer Rebate from Polaris to qualifying dealers for each unit sold during this promotion. Subtract from "Ready to sell cost".

OR Special financing OR $250 in Polaris accessories available on selected models.

The "Ready to sell cost" is the cost of the machine at the time of sale with NO PROFIT to a dealer. Dealers do not stay in business very long by selling machines for no profit. Any available wholesale or retail incentives and dealer holdback bonus will reduce the dealer's net cost from the "Ready to sell cost".

Many dealers charge additional fees for "Freight and Setup" over and above the selling price of the machine. Add the "Selling Price" to the "Freight and Setup" charges and subtract the "Ready to sell cost" to determine the PROFIT a dealer is asking to make.

 

Well I called my local dealer after getting the forementioned pricing info off the Internet.

Dealer quoted for a 2003 SP 700 Blue.
6499 - SP 700
380 - Setup and Delivery charge
25 - Processing Fee (I forgot what this was about)
345.20 - Sales Tax

7249.20 - Total

So I began to ask the sales person questions.
Did they fix the leaky water pump issue?
Answer: We haven't heard of that problem. I said, its all over the internet, may you need to check out the forum atvconnection.com. The ones we have sold from here have not had any problems. I said really, then why did my friend who bought one from you just drop his off yesterday for this problem? He was speechless.. My buddy had to bitch at them cause they were not going to fix it under warranty, but he got his way after making a sence.

This price seems a bit high from what I've been seeing, plus its been on the showroom floor for about 4 weeks. But the sales person says there're moving fast, yea right. You better dust it off buddy.

He won't move off this price I tried, what do you guys think about it?

 

I just bought a 03 700 Mossy Oak last Saturday. I priced every dealer within a 150 mile radius and the best price I got was the local dealer, $7300 total. I could have got a green one for $7000. I couldn't get them down any lower. The problem around here is there aren't many Mossy Oak 700's available. My dealer did tell me about the 02 water pump cover and carb boot problem, but supposedly fixed these on the 03's. I have also noticed mine doesn't have the grease fittings on the u-joints like the earlier 03 models. I'm glad I bought it, I really like it so far.

Have you tried the Dealership in West Va. Shouldn't be to far from you. I think that it is off of RT.50 going to West Va. when you go through Winchester,Va. From what I have heard they have good pricing. I havent bought one there.

CrispyCritter, I can't search the dealers via Polaris's webpage it keeps erroring out. Do you know the name of that dealership in VA, or can anyone help out. Switchboard comes up with three ATV dealers in the area.

 

Too bad your not in the Twin Cities, MN area. The Hitching Post sells em dirt cheap. I think $5999+ is what they want for a 700. My buddy got a 600 for $5300+ from there.

 

Please explain the carb boot problem. Thanks.

I'm not sure about the carb boot problem but I assume it must have been like a vacuum leak. I didn't really ask a lot of questions about that or the water pump cover leak, they both seemed like minor problems to me.

 

the water pump cover was a problem on '02s and SOME early '03s.(i know, i had one of each)

they all have been updated and the water pump issue is a mood point.

very few '02s had the crack in the carb boot. i've never heard of a problem with one in my area.

the 700 is a DAMN GOOD machine. have no reservations/hesitations about buying one.
