Arctic Cat 3004x4 or Honda 3004x4
#1
I want to get a used ATV and am wondering which one would be better. The AC 3004x4 or Honda 3004x4. I would use it to go on the trapline, hunting, fishing and trail riding. I won't go in extremely big mu holes, but I want to get where I want to go, reliably! I also would drive it in winter, here in Manitoba, so are they capable in the snow. Their are no hills to climb, hence I live on the prairies. All in all, I want an ATV that is reliable, and get the best bang for the buck.

Well it's true. The definition of reliable is Honda 300 Fourtrax. I have one and always will. When I put money down on the Rincon, I didn't even think of selling or trading in the 300. I've had many offers for it, but won't sell, just hand it down to the kids. It'll get you there and back. Good luck and good quading.

like everyone else i agree i have owned a honda 300 since fall of 97 it was are family quad and we used it on the far and it has never let us down i also owned a 99 ac 300 it was ok but the honda had more power by far the only thing good bout the ac is the ground clearance and 2/4 drive and the suspion but the 300 is an awsome quad...

i have never owned a Honda but have ridden a lot starting with the 250 to the 300 and i bought an Arctic Cat just because of the selectable 4 wheel drive and if i had to do it all over again i would make the same decision. My Arctic Cat hasn't given me any problems except to replace the battery ( which lasted 4 years ) around where I live every one has Hondas but I dont think one would have taken all the abuse that i gave my Cat. but really either should hol;d up fine as long as you keep up the maintenance.

the honda fourtrax 300 4x4 will take up to practically any abuse u can throw at it... just change the oil and keep good tires on it is the only thing i have done and i have raced someone with my honda 300 and he was riding my ol 99 ac300 and i killed him i raced him 5 times or so... he tried everything 2x4 4x4 high low ne thing he could think of he hit 40 and i was passing him he had the whole shot cuz of the 2x4 and not having a superlow 1st gear but hten i kill him... and i tried to pull a water wagon for the farm it was empty with the ac 300 and i tired to go up a little hill then someone had the tractor so i got the honda out and it pulled it every where... you ant go wrong with the honda 300 or 400 4x4 the will never let u down

The A/C has 5 gears in each of 3 ranges. You will never run out of power to spin the wheels like you can on the Honda. It rarely happens, but with mud bogger tires, you can be in a situation where you just can't spin the wheels. The Cat also has better suspension, selectable 2wd/4wd, bigger gas tank, higher cargo capacity, and a cargo box that is easier to get to when you have the racks loaded.
The Honda seems to just 'fit' me better, has no rear CV joint boot that can tear, and is probably the most reliable quad ever made. Even with the smaller gas tank, the Honda is good for an all-day ride (those 300s are really easy on fuel). Unless you load it to the max, you will never miss the cargo capacity of the cat, either. You may miss the 3 range transmission if you do a lot of towing, though. Pop it to medium or low range, and you gear all the ratios down, and space them closer together. The Hondas have a gap between 1st & 2nd, and again between 2nd & 3rd (I wish they put a 6 speed in them, then all would be well).
If it was me, and they were of comparable age/use, equally cared for, and the same price, I would get the Honda hands down. However, the Cats are usually cheaper used, sometimes by quite a bit, which makes the decision harder.

Gee what kind of an answer were you expecting on a HONDA forum???? Cat has far more features than the Honda, 3 range tranny, independent sus, shift indicator, start in gear, far better ride, DISC Brakes, & if you get a 2001 or older a locking front diff for TRUE 4WD. True Hondas are reliable but so is Suzuki based Cat.
