FSW's motor failures (trinity)
#1
While at FSW's i saw a few Trinity motors that had broken down. What was the outcome?? I think one was Rob's that had just come from there shop. It had a timing chain go thru the top? Then there was one at the hill that rolled behind Harry's truck, the turbo and 1 more at camp. So is there a timing chain issue cropping up??

I don't no 14mins I have seen you run pretty hard for some time and the only thing that I seen break is the Super Chickens tranny.
I have run mine pretty hard as well and I broke old blues tranny.

You know Trinity is using larger valves in the Raptor heads, so if larger valves you should have more spring pressure. I wonder if they are trying old NASCAR valve spring to maintain 425pounds of closed set pressure. Hey thats a quick way to break timing chains.
Just my opinion!

So, should we stay with stock size valves? Sounds like the oversize valves will do more harm than good if you don't have the right springs!!!

I e-mailed hot cams asking about a heavy duty timing chain and this is what they wrote back:Hello,
I wouldn't know who would make a stronger timing chain if there is such a thing. The timing chain on a Raptor is a HyVo style chain. Some refer to as a Link Plate chain. There would be no aftermarket heavy duty chain for that vehicle. A heavier duty chain for the Raptor would mean a chain with more links (read; wider) in it to accept more stress. You would need wider gears, if you did find a chain, to match. This type of chain is considerably stronger than a std roller chain chain and would be even stronger than most H.D. roller chains. You're more apt to wear the sprockets out than the chain in this type of application.
Thank you for considering Hot Cams.

Ernie660r, I am curious to find out why you would need more spring pressure when using larger valves? I thought the only reason for a stiffer spring rate was to compensate for the added cam lift. Thanks!
