Can I get a little cheese...to go with this Whine?

The weekend after FSW I went riding with a buddy and my quad is running like S-hit! Midrange is the pits (popping sputtering very rich acting lots of soot)and I had substantial crank-case blow-by. Prior to that ride I had relocated the crank vent tube/hose and filter to a point where I think too much air was passing by the filter creating a venturi effect sucking oil out of the case, but haven't really got to ride since then.
And since then my "wheels have been turning", trying to figure out what's the problem...of course the more I thought about it the larger the senerio became...so now my DS is at Micheal's in Reno...that began by placing an phoned-in-order for a stock throttle cable on Wed morn of last week (which they never did process) so I could put my stock carb back on just in case my problem turns out to be with the TM45. I figured I'd just get some testing done on the quad to ease my mind...compression, leak-down, coil output, valve-adjust...all for about $100...done professionally...yeah, Okay. So today they called and said no problems and I went to pick it up. I asked for some #s on the tests for comparison sake the next time I have tests ran. First compression--120! I asked isn't that a little low? Did you deactivate the autodecompressor? Coil out-put was checked the same way us shadetree mechanics do it--spark jumps a 5mm gap...Man, I hate it when I get the run around...so I asked the mechanic with the service mgr standing there that had called me and told me EVERYTHING (valves included) had beeen done...how'd my valves look?...?huh?...was the mechanics reply. I don't have a very good feeling about this experience...then again...I'm now certain I will eventually learn how to do all these things myself!
Supposedly the mechanics gonna call me while they've got the head off so I can come down and see how they perform this little operation called a valve adjustment...until then I'm holding my breath...NOT.

where i bought my ds's they sell a lot of snowmobiles, so when i ask if they know the answer to a question, they tell me they have never worked on one?i guess they sell quads for a hobby. oh well at least i can get oil filters there.

Learn how to do it yourself and save!!! Save time, money, agravation, stress, and above all, your sanity.
in my opinion, the shops are there to sell bikes, parts and sometimes perform warranty work though most of the time I won't even take it there for that.
Jiminok, If you like I can help you with your valves, I have all the tools to do the work. It sounds like you are in Mojave which is 2 hours south of me and you drive right by here on the 99 on your way to Reno. PM me if you want.

Wow...gotta love all the different takes on this thread...I am in 100% agreement with JSsDS on learning to do this simple job myself! My sanity definately depends on it...speaking of depends...I'll wear a pair the next time I get a hairbrained idea to go to a dealership for anything other than to buy parts!
I took others advice, and followed my instinct, and went and picked up my quad before this situation got out of hand. It was good that I did because after talking to the mech he said that the service mgr. had for one misquoted the charges...and two they had zero shims for the DS! I'm leaving Reno Wed morn and would have have been BEAT and extremely bummed...
The good news is that Hightower is once again 100% correct on 120psi without deactivation of the auto decompressor. My leakdown test resulted in a 3% loss (was told anything less than 10% was acceptable), and both coils produce enough spark to jump an 8mm gap.
Monday I'm gonna try to find a stock throttle cable...tell me this if you can...is there a cross refrenced part # on this or is it specific to the DS only? I'm thinking specific to the DS because of the thumb throttle and possibly length but am not 100% positive...
Anyway fellow DSers, thanks for the responses and offerings of support...
